However, during my past few weeks of work, I have realized that this may not be entirely possible. There are several projects I have been working on that are nowhere near complete, and while there are more than enough capable people here to finish them, I would prefer to personally see them through. Originally, I planned to have these projects completed by the time I retired. However, with the added workload due to the recent merger, we have all had a lot on our plates. Because of this, I would like to stay on an additional 6 months after my planned retirement. If this is at all possible, I would greatly appreciate it. I can assure you that I would make terrific use of this extra time, and I would personally feel much more confident knowing I finished what I started at this company. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter, and I am always available to discuss it further. If you don’t think it is possible at this time, I will do everything I can to prepare my team for my departure.
