Tell the class your name, and what they should call you. Help them with the pronunciation, if necessary. “Hello everybody, and welcome to Econ 102. My name is Kelly Reynolds, and I’ll be teaching this course. You can call me Kelly or Professor Reynolds, whichever you want.” “Hi class! I’m Mr. McHenry, but you can just call me Mr. M. for short. I’ll be teaching you this year.” Tell them a little about your professional background. “Just a little bit about me: I was a history major at UCLA and I’ve been teaching high school U.S. History for about 2 years now.” “I know that not all of you like math, but I love it! I got my degree in mathematics and algebra has always been my favorite. I’m so excited to be teaching you this year.” Give them some fun facts about yourself. “I love to hike and do mountain biking. I sometimes ride my bike to school, too, so say hi if you ever see me riding in.” “I have a daughter and a son, who are both in elementary school. We really like to travel as a family. We went to Paris last summer and we’re planning a trip to China next year.” Say that you’re excited for the upcoming year or semester. “I can’t wait to get to know you guys this year.” “I’m really looking to teaching you guys introductory chemistry this semester!”
