To Whom it May Concern,
I am writing to inform the BBB of a “phishing” scam in the hopes your office will shut down this nefarious activity.
Last week I received a complaint in the mail typed on letterhead. The letter purported to come from LJ Contractors Inc., of Ipswitch, MA. The complaint alleged that I had fallen behind in payments on my swimming pool and that LJ had been hired to collect the debt. Obviously, this startled me, as I recently took out a personal bank loan to finance my backyard pool installation.
When I called the number on the letter, I was redirected to a call center. At first the telephone operator was fairly friendly, but as the conversation went on he became more aggressive. He began demanding bank account information from me and threatened to sue me if I didn't comply with his requests. I told him I needed time to look into the issue and would be happy to call back. He became even more aggressive, and I was forced to hang up.
I called the bank about the loan and was informed that all payments were on time and the loan was in good standing. The bank representative advised me that I should beware of any correspondence from "LJ Contractors."
Please take appropriate action against LJ Contractors and advise other consumers to steer clear of this company. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Kind regards,
Herman Broadworth
