Basic Format
Author. (Year Published). Title of source. Location of publisher: publisher. Retrieved from: URL
Author
Use the “World Health Organization” as the author, followed by a period.
Example:
World Health Organization.
Date of publication
Include (in parenthesis) the date the source was published by WHO, which can typically be found at the top of the page. If there is no specific date, simply note the year. If there is no year, write (“n.d.”).
Examples:
World Health Organization. (2010, February 12).
World Health Organization. (n.d.).
Title
Next, put the title of the report in italics, capitalizing the first word and any proper nouns.
Examples:
Health systems financing: the path to universal coverage.
Investing to overcome the global impact of neglected tropical diseases.
Website
Lastly, include the URL you used to access the report. If the report is in print, leave this out.
Examples:
Retrieved from: https://www.who.int/neglected_diseases/9789241564861/en/
Retrieved from: https://www.who.int/whr/2010/en/
Location
If the report is in print, you’ll need to include the city and state in which the report was published. Follow this by a colon and the word “Author” to indicate that the WHO is the author. If the location is outside of the United States, state the city and country of publication.
Example:
Houston, Texas: Author.
Geneva, Switzerland: Author.
