[Your address] 2239 Briarwood Way Atlanta, GA 30311 [Date] June 19, 2019 [Casual greeting] Hi Asher, [Acknowledge your friend] Thank you for your last letter. You’ve always been that friend I know I can go to for a good dose of wisdom. [Main points] I’ve taken your advice and have decided to stick it out one more year in Atlanta before moving overseas. As much as I really want to start over fresh, I agree with you in that I think it’s wise to do a bit more planning and preparation (especially with my family). I have decided on Madrid after finding out that an old friend of mine moved there recently and is more than happy to help me get set up. Looks like I’ll be actually learning spanish now—if only you and I hadn’t goofed off in Sra. Valencia’s class all those years! As for work here, it’s going alright. I remodeled my photography studio (see enclosed photos) and business is quite steady. Lots of graduation photos and weddings. That reminds me, do you remember Theresa Jones from Mr. Sammler’s class? I photographed her wedding! Turns out the wedding planner was a mutual friend that Theresa had met in undergrad. She asked me about you and told me to give you her best. Thank you for asking about my Aunt. She’s staying with my parents over in Dallas until she figures out her next move. Her house was completely flooded and unlivable—I’m just glad she evacuated in time (with all 4 dogs and 2 cats safely in tow!). [Address their life] I’m glad to hear that you’re doing well and thriving down in Sydney. I always knew that you’d pave your own path, and how fitting that it should be a vegan barbeque restaurant! I can’t wait to come visit and try some of your delicious dishes! And I’m really excited for you and Mallory—you’re going to be a great dad! [Ask open questions] Are you hoping for a boy or girl? Any names in the lineup? And I looked at Conscious BBQ’s website and am wondering how on earth you make those realistic looking ribs out of plants (mushrooms)? That’s amazing and my mouth is watering even as a write this! But I understand if you don’t want to give away any chef secrets. :) Did you get your diving certification yet? If so, I’d love to do a dive with you when I visit and take some underwater shots. What else is going on in your life? How are your parents doing? [Reference your friendship and correspondence] I know we only get together once or twice a year, but know that I consider you my best friend. I love how we always pick up right where we left off. [Casual salutation] Take care, [Your name (signed by hand for a thoughtful touch)] Joseph Harper
