You may have a cat, but maybe you want another one. Or, you want to get your cat a friend to keep it company. Cats can sometimes get lonely and may want another cat around. Here are some helpful tips for adopting a second cat.

Get a cat from a shelter, and make sure it has had all of its vaccinations, if not then make sure to get your cat vaccinated as soon as possible.
- Go to the Humane Society if you have one nearby.

Be aware. Cats are very territorial and think that if another cat is around, it will take its place.
- The first cat will then think that it's not "king of the house" anymore, and can lead to fights.
- Try to get them to play together and get used to their scent,or get them separate rooms. It's easier if they are kittens.

4Getting a friendly cat.
- You need the cats to get along, so ask for a friendly cat.
- If the one you have isn't, try letting them just sniff first, or putting the new cat in a bedroom or something.
- If you plan on getting another cat before you get the first one, plan on making sure the first cat is friendly.

Expect some fighting and/or hissing at the beginning.
- It is important that your cats establish rank. Monitor them during this time and the spats should go away in 3-7 days.
- If the fighting escalates to blood draw, separate the cats IMMEDIATELY.(Outside,another room,etc.)

Get them separate litter boxes if they're inside cats.
