Hi Sam! I finished that big new oil painting that I mentioned to you a few days ago! Would you like to see it?
Yes, I’d love to! Remind me what the painting is of?
It’s a big landscape painting of some of the swamps in the Everglades that I saw when I was down in Florida last year. I took some photos, remember?
Oh right! I knew it had something to do with Florida.
The trip was actually pretty fun even aside from finding the inspiration for this big new project. Have you ever been to Florida? It’s a fun place to visit.
You know, I think my family went to Tallahassee once when I was a kid.
Never to Disney World? Seems like everybody used to go there as a kid. I could never decide if I liked Disney World or Disneyland better.
Nope, never went to Disney World. I think my parents didn’t like Orlando for some reason.
Makes sense. I appreciate your interest in my paintings :). Are you very interested in other types of art too? I used to do some drawing, but haven’t in years.
I love sculpture, actually. Something about the work being in 3D interests me.
I know what you mean. I tried to make a few sculptures a couple of years ago, but didn’t have any luck. Do you have a favorite sculpture?
I think the “David” sculpture by Michelangelo.
That’s a great one. How did you start having an appreciation for sculptures? It took me years to get into them; I found paintings more accessible.
My older sister used to take me around to local art museums when we were kids, and she’d always tell me about the sculptures.
Sounds like she was a great sister. I wish I’d had a family member who could’ve gotten me interested in art at a younger ago. What does your sister do now?
She lives in New Jersey actually; she sells car insurance.
Not bad; maybe you and her can check out the New Jersey art museum next time you visit.
I hope so!
Anyway, let me know next time you’re around the art department, and I’ll show you my painting!
Great; I’ll look forward to it!
