Dear Mr. Thurston, While attending church services last Sunday, I noticed on the community bulletin board that the Homeless Ministry is looking for a Volunteer Soup Kitchen Coordinator and Administrator. I’d like to take this opportunity to help my fellow man and offer my experienced service in this position. For seven years, I owned and operated a small restaurant in downtown Springfield, Ohio before moving to Wilmington. During that time I operated a meals-on-wheels program, delivering nutritious meals to the sick and elderly in my neighborhood. Providing healthy food to those in need has always been a passion of mine, for I believe that good food is indispensable to a healthy body, and that healthy bodies are necessary for a prosperous society. Growing up in a low-income area of Springfield, I saw the cycle of homelessness and poverty pass my front window every day. I saw people turn away from those in need with callousness and contempt for human suffering. I resolved then to dedicate my life to easing the hardships of those around me, because I believe that a civilization can only be as strong as its weakest members. I hope that your organization will give me the chance to fulfill my sacred promise by allowing me to help and become closer to the members of my new community. If you have any questions, you can contact me at (815) 555-0198; I am available every day except Tuesdays. Alternatively, you can email me any time at lauradaniel@email.com. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope to hear from you very soon. Faithfully yours, Laura Daniel
