All About Aura

What are aura points?
The concept of “aura points” is a fun, non-serious construct that relates to how cool someone is, or how confidently someone carries themselves. The idea of gaining and losing aura points has become something of a meme, with one popular TikTok trend seeing countless teens/young adults discuss distressing or otherwise uncomfortable events in their lives with the question “Do I lose aura points if…” Alternatively, some have made “How many aura points do I gain if…” TikToks by highlighting the cool things that happened to them.

Do aura points matter?
The idea of aura points are really funny, but they shouldn’t be taken seriously. Life is short, and we should all focus way more on being ourselves, living life authentically, and enjoying every day—and way less on being nonchalant to seem cool. In the long run, being bold, open, and vulnerable will make you way happier and way more successful.

The idea of aura points relies on the idea that other people are paying close attention and care deeply about every little thing that we do, and that’s actually just not true at all. When you push a pull door, say something and get ignored, or fall down the stairs, the person who will care the most, by far, is you. So the only critic you need to address is the one inside your own head—the second that you realize how cool you actually are, you won’t worry about how other people feel.
