Helioptile is an Electric and Normal-Type Pokémon, that was first introduced in Pokémon X and Y. When it is exposed to a Sun Stone, it evolves into the also Electric and Normal-Type Pokémon, Heliolisk. [1] This wikiHow will teach you how to catch Helioptile in Pokémon X and Y.

Steps

  1. Helioptile has a relatively high Catch Rate, [2] so either normal or great Pokéballs should work well (make sure, however, that you bring multiple Pokéballs with you, in case your first attempt at catching Helioptile is unsuccessful).
    • You can also bring a few Quick Balls with you, in case you’d like to attempt to catch Helioptile right away when the encounter begins.
  2. Since Helioptile is an Electric and Normal-Type Pokémon, it is weak to those types of moves. [3]
    • Helioptile is immune to Ghost-Type moves (unless it is carrying a Ring Target), along with Water-Type moves if it has the Dry Skin ability, so be sure to keep that in mind. [4]

  3. In Pokémon X and Y, there are two locations where you can find Helioptile, and they include Route 9 (Spikes Passage), and the Electric-Type Friend Safari. [5]
  4. Helioptile has a relatively average encounter rate in both locations, with it being slightly higher in the Friend Safari. No matter which location you choose, you should eventually come across Helioptile.
    • On Route 9, you will not be looking in tall grass for Helioptile, but rather, you will come across it at some point while riding Rhyhorn and walking across the spikes.
  5. This should make catching it even easier.
    • Moves like False Swipe are good to use, because they’re guaranteed to leave the Pokémon the move is used on with at least 1 HP.
  6. Once its health gets low enough, throw a Pokéball. Eventually, you should catch Helioptile.
    • If you're planning on using a Quick Ball, however, be sure that you throw it immediately when the encounter begins.

      Tips

      • In addition to Helioptile being immune to Water-Type moves, if it has the Dry Skin ability, then Fire-Type moves will also be slightly more effective. [6]
      • From time to time, if its health gets low enough, Helioptile may call another Pokémon for help. If this happens, then you'll need to defeat the Pokémon that appears before you will be able to catch Helioptile.
