As a GrubHub driver, you'll mostly deliver one order at a time, but occasionally you'll get what GrubHub calls a stacked order. A stacked order means you'll be delivering to more than one person. You'll need to know how to handle this kind of order for when it comes your way.
Steps
Part 1
Part 1 of 3:
Accepting a Stacked Order
-
1Open up the GH Drivers app. It has the GH icon on a grey background (instead of reddish orange like the regular GrubHub app).
-
2Drive into an area of high restaurant delivery demand within your GrubHub region. You won't necessarily get stacked orders there, but the odds are higher.Advertisement
-
3Make sure that you're marked ready to take orders. Tap the "Unavailable" button and slide the slider switch to "Taking orders"; then tap the "X" in the top left corner to exit back out and begin receiving orders.
-
4Schedule yourself into your region if necessary. You can receive orders with only "Taking Orders" turned on, being on the schedule gives you priority for new orders. Learn this process in How to Set Your GrubHub Delivery Schedule in GH Drivers.
-
5Watch out for requests. A stacked order is an order from a restaurant where there are two (or more) meals to be picked up and delivered. You'll see something like "2 (3) orders" on the line just below the name and address of the restaurant. Tap "Accept order" when you're ready to accept it.
- Missed orders hurt your acceptance rate, and can definitely affect your earnings - since you're missing bigger orders with more money and tips!
-
6Take yourself back to the "Tasks" page if you aren't there already. Tap the menu bar in the top left corner and select "Tasks".
-
7Tap the business name line to open the page that will get you to the pickup address of the business.Advertisement

Part 2 of 3:
Picking Up the Orders
-
1Navigate to the business. If you need help, you can tap the compass button in the bottom right corner of the map.
-
2Park your vehicle and walk into the restaurant. Take your GrubHub bag with you; you'll need the storage space.
- Stacked orders will only fit in the GrubHub bag - rarely in any other bags which tend to be smaller and only meant for one order at a time.
-
3Look at the pickup instructions if any are given on the page. Read them carefully and follow them so the pickup goes smoothly at the business.
-
4Mark yourself as arrived. If the page doesn't automatically switch to give you the arrived button, tap into the Tasks menu again and tap the business name.
- If GrubHub won't allow you to mark it (because it thinks you're too far away even though you aren't), tap "There's a problem" and tell them that you can't mark it as arrived.
-
5Proceed to the pickup counter or register (depending on where the employees tell you to go to pick up the orders).
-
6Pick up your orders and check each one. Once you check, head back to the "Tasks" page and select the first diner. Tap the order tab and verify the order is present (including drinks), and mark "Got order". Back out of the first diner's order and proceed to the next diner from the Tasks page repeating your verification and tapping "Got order" again. Keep going until all orders are marked "Got order".
- Look for any markings on the bags and containers to denote which person has which bags. Sometimes they're written on there, and sometimes not. If the restaurant doesn't mark the orders, you may want to bring Post-It notes to label them yourself.
-
7Mark yourself as leaving. Tap the restaurant line from the Tasks page and tap "Leaving".Advertisement

Part 3 of 3:
Delivering Your Orders
-
1Take yourself back to the Tasks page and tap the top diner. The tool will only work from top to bottom, and the app has calculated your best route to get between both diners easily.
-
2Read your special diner instructions, if there are any. Sometimes it might give you apartment instructions, or tell you where to park or how to reach them. Be ready to heed these diner instruction when you arrive.
-
3Navigate to your first diner. If you need help, the compass button in the right corner of the area map can send the diner address to your navigation app of choice.
-
4Follow the normal directions for the first order. When you get there, drop off the meal to the first customer, and - much like single-order meals - tap "Arrived" then tap "Delivered". The tool will move you right into your second delivery.
- Again, if you can't mark as arrived, for example if the diner decided to relocate or the address is mapped wrong, tap "There's a problem" and tell them that you can't mark as arrived.
-
5Navigate to the second diner. Again, if you need help with the next navigation route for the delivery, the compass pointer button in the bottom right corner of the map will send the address to your navigation app and you'll be on your way.
-
6Accept a back-to-back order, if given another request. Back-to-back orders may come at any time, after marking yourself as arrived at the restaurant. You'll hear your cowbell and your notifications will appear as normal. This request will not be tied to this stacked order; it's just what comes next.
-
7Drop off the order, using the same process as all other orders. Tap the "Arrived" button, followed by the "Delivered" button.
-
8Repeat for as many orders as you picked up.
-
9Follow through with all orders until you complete your scheduled hours. If it comes after the end of this order, great.
- Turn yourself offline. GH Drivers may ask you to extend your shift for up to an hour or more after you complete the last order. You'll need to turn your status off in order to stop taking orders. Tap into your "Tasks" page once your official shift is over and tap "Taking offers" - tap the "Offline" choice and tap the "X". Your day should be complete.

Tips
- GrubHub will only send you stacked orders once they can be assured of the package-tracked of their supplies at your address you provided them. Thanks
- • Although restaurants are often prepared for your arrival, there are times when the restaurant isn't ready because their tablet isn't plugged in and GrubHub auto-accepted their order for preparation then asked for someone to pick it up! Just make sure they realize that there are several customers and that this is a stacked order when you come in and try to pick this one up with this problem, and make sure to let your diners know that you're running a bit behind. Thanks
