Once you've delivered at least 60 single orders as an Instacart Shopper, the app may send you a request where you'll be shopping for and delivering two orders at once. This article will help you fill these double batch orders.
Steps
Part 1
Part 1 of 2:
Filling the Orders
-
1Open Instacart Shopper and accept a double batch order. Double batches come up with slightly tweaked buttons. The map will show both delivery locations, and the "Accept order" button will read "Accept orders" instead.
-
2Navigate to the store. This is no different from shopping for a regular order. To the left of both customer names and customer initial "icons", you'll see a bubble with either an A or a B. Each one corresponds to the customer you are shopping for.Advertisement
-
3Open the order once you arrive. Grab your cart. Instacart will show you a reminder (especially at first) that this is a double batch; tap "Got it".
-
4Shop the order like you normally would. If you have questions the customer needs to answer, you'll need to watch which customer ordered that item. On the list screen, you'll see the same A or B marker to the left of the item's icon. If it's just a matter of finding a substitute item, you can just use the substitute feature like you do with a single batch order.
- Contact the right customer, if necessary. When you tap your Chat icon in the top right corner, you'll see a list which contains two separate buttons, one for each customer - A and B. Once you've gotten into the chat with the right customer, everything else should be the same.
- Instacart combines both orders into the same central list screen for simplicity.
-
5Review the changes with each customer. Instacart designates orders by their number 1 and 2, but once you proceed you'll see names. Each order will show in a separate box on the same screen.
-
6Head to the checkout. You’ll handle each order separately during checkout. When putting your items on the belt (or checking out at the self checkout), be sure to watch your customer orders list. The customer orders list can be found by tapping the (i) button in the top right corner and tapping "Show items". With this list, each customer is broken down into the components and it shows the items you had to substitute or refund; you'll need to watch for replacements as you pull the items out of your first cart.
- You’ll need to make sure the orders are bagged separately; a second cart can be handy for this.
-
7Complete the process for checkout. Instacart has you check out each order separately, following the same process as usual for the rewards card and the Instacart card; you’ll swipe the card for each order at the register and tap "Next." You still grab and hold onto the receipts, as usual. After the first order, within the same screen, it'll follow with the second order in the same way.
-
8Bring the shopped goods to your car. If there are a lot of bags to keep separate, it can be helpful to put the first order in the back seat with the second order in your trunk.Advertisement

Part 2 of 2:
Delivering the Orders
-
1Deliver the orders one by one. Instacart will show you a double batch delivery page . The first order will begin like any delivery (with the green "Swipe to start delivery on the Delivery page"), and you will be need to follow the same process as for a single order. Instacart will have you deliver to the first customer and then the second customer.
- Use the best routes you can find; perhaps even use the Google Maps app to find shortcuts with "Similar ETA"s. Your routes should be the most efficient routes possible.
- Slide each bar when the app requires it; much like a single batch order, you'll see the address and order delivery notes for the customer.
-
2Mark this order as complete. Slide the "Swipe to complete delivery" red slider, as usual.
-
3Proceed to the next step of the delivery. After you mark the first order as delivered, Instacart will send you back to a Delivery page where you'll have to swipe the bar to proceed on the delivery route to the second customer. Swiping this bar will start the timer to the second customer.
-
4Deliver to the second customer. Again, use the best route possible. Your screen will change to the address of the next customer and you will have to tap the "Navigate" button or manually input the address into a navigation app.
-
5Swipe the "Swipe to complete delivery" bar, once you've delivered the goods to the second customer.
-
6Follow through. You may receive a survey to complete after the order or your shift.Advertisement
