If you've recently been invited to deliver for Uber Eats through the Uber Driver app and have received a request, have no fear! Although the instructions are rather simple in the app, for additional help, this wikiHow will give you the details.

Part 1
Part 1 of 3:

Going to the Pickup Location

  1. 1
Open up your Uber Driver app on your phone. Uber Driver is black and has the word "Uber" and a right-pointing arrow on it.
    • While some areas give drivers independent responsibilities for delivering and driving, others allow separate drivers and delivery people to avoid the amount of workload there is for this Uber City.
    • In some Uber Cities, if you legally sign-up to solely Deliver, are within the guidelines for personal and automotive reasons but are rejected, chances are that in this Uber City, they only give access to Delivery if you've provided ride-share services for a period of time before you can later ask for access to Delivery, due to lesser workload.
  2. 2
Make sure that UberEATS/Delivery is turned on in your Trip Preferences. Tap the three lines (hamburger-like) menu in the bottom right corner of the screen, then on the next screen tap the "slider bar" icon also in the bottom right corner, then tap Deliveries towards the top and tap "Save".
    • If you just have Deliveries on your screen, even better (you'll only be able to get deliveries). If you just have UberX, you will need to contact Uber to be able to deliver.
    • UberXL drivers are not able to deliver orders at this time as Uber fears these drivers will request more money for the heavier gas tanks that need more money to fill up to compensate and they don't want to have to deal with this at this time.
    • You will need to back out of the menus after tapping "Save". Tap the downward-pointing arrow on your Trip Planner.
    • Although you should routinely check this preferences page to ensure it's turned on if you tend to turn this service off. But you shouldn't need to go into this page if you rarely - if ever - turn anything off.

  3. 3
Go online. Tap the blue "Go" button on your map to mark yourself as Online.
    • Your workload for some areas may include McDonald’s and Subway (sandwiches), but this will depend on region. UberEats tends to constantly expand and may have other popular restaurants providing delivery options. This will all be based on your location and what Uber has approved for delivery on their platform.
    • Uber finds the closest UberEATS Delivery-Partner (driver for Uber Eats) to ping first. But, while this may only be out a few minutes from the restaurant, Uber still uses the "twenty-five minute out driving time system" used for ride-sharing pings for UberEATS.
  4. 4
Accept a food delivery request. Tap the blue meal delivery bag that is positioned between the words "Delivery" and "Meal" at the top of the grey request box at the bottom of the screen. You should have thirty seconds to read these deeper request screens but act quickly before they go away because there's little chance that they'll be back a second time.
    • Peruse the delivery screen before you accept it. You can see a variety of request styles based on your Uber Pro levels with some sameness on the rest of the screen.
    • If you have Uber Pro Gold, Platinum or Diamond, you'll also see your payment amount (before tips which customers may give only after the order is delivered), the total time to pick up, wait and deliver (x minutes "total time"), and even the name and address line of the pickup on separate lines directly beneath the icon.
    • If you just have Uber Pro Blue, besides the button to accept the words Delivery and Meal, you'll also see the time to get to the pickup point, an approximate price written as "Earn at least (monetary amount)" and the name and (street) address portion of the restaurant you'd be heading to.
    • On the map above, you'll see the route not only to the restaurant but to the customer too - but you should never discriminate on the customer on their time away from the restaurant. This ability won't differ between the levels of Uber Pro you'll have.
  5. 5
Read the pickup instructions. Tap the ETA bar at the bottom of the screen, or tap the up arrow at the bottom of the screen then read the "Note from business". This often will describe where you should go to pick up the order. Some may even mention drive-thru lines, or if you should come down an alleyway near the building to pick it up from a private entrance (in big metropolitan cities). But, once ready to proceed, tap the downward arrow near the bottom left of the screen.
    • Sometimes your pickup instructions may include so much detail that the initial box isn't enough to fit it and you must press the "See More" button towards the right side of this box to read the notes in the entirety.
    • If you don't understand the instructions, you can call the business. The phone icon to the right of the business name and address is the contact button for the business. However, with Uber's turn-by-turn instructions, you shouldn't have to do this very often.
  6. 6
Navigate to the business' pickup location, using your preferred street-level navigation of Uber Driver's turn-by-turn instructions map and your knowledge of road rules in your area. Park within the parking lot or on the street at the designated location. You will hear audible directions and will get a turn-by-turn map in your app that will get you to the restaurant the best way possible.
    • If you use Uber for navigation but are still unsure of the directions, tap the turn-by-turn line at the top of your screen and tap either "Google Maps" or "Waze" at the bottom - if either one is installed (one of these should be installed, at minimum). However, some drivers find this to be too confusing to use often, so use at your discretion.
    • Recognize that the business's name from the ETA bar may flash on and off - awkwardly as you navigate to the business. However, that has become standard with UberEATS orders.
  7. 7
Park in designated parking areas only. Depending on your Uber city and road rules, Uber will try to pin-point you in the direction of a parking lot - but not always - and may sometimes have to give you on-street parking for the business in some areas. Uber tries to minimize on-street parking and doesn't want you paying for an unspent time at these meters.
    • Estimated times waiting at some locations may take about five minutes. But expect shorter times if the restaurant is ready when you are close by.

Part 2 of 3:

Picking Up the Food

  1. 1
Walk into the restaurant and announce that you are there to pick up an UberEATS order. Uber often says to announce the order by name and order number, though often the name will be enough to explain which order you are there to pick up. UberEATS pings you before the restaurant will get the order's details to ensure there is a driver available to deliver and so orders aren't left waiting for long.
    • After you park, your bottom line may say "Arriving shortly" with no time detail. But you must use the pickup instructions you've read to get you into the business to pick up the order.
      • If by the time you arrive the order details screen doesn't pop open from the bottom displaying your additional details, just tap the bottom ETA bar to make it display and proceed.
    • Uber encourages the use of their black UberEATS bag - but as long as the bag has a warmth-lining, you can use those instead. Their UberEATS bag can be bought at most Greenlight Hubs, or through their online system with a Greenlight Hub discount code. However, many restaurants use their own paper/plastic bags with stickers and/or markings.
    • Never hand your phone to an employee - saying it's "this order". Restaurants employees will rarely work UberEATS delivery on the side, so will not be able to work your device without pushing improper buttons to find this name quickly. You may turn the phone around and show them that you have a map for your delivery screen - ensuring they know you are there to pick up the order they carefully worked on). Restaurant employees aren't UberEATS delivery employees, so you shouldn't hand the phone to them.
    • At about eight minutes of standing waiting for the order, you'll see a "Not ready" button on your screen that can be used to signal to Uber that the business wasn't ready to have you pick up the order yet and Uber may have to contact this business to speed it up - if possible.
  2. 2
Read the customer's order details (food-wise), if necessary. The person icon to the left of the customer's name is the button that designates the order details. This screen won't tell you the price the customer paid for the food, so it should not be used for this reason.
  3. 3
Tap the checkbox to the left of the customer's name and order number onscreen. To proceed to the next step, you must check this box to validate that you have the right order and the items are now in your possession. By doing so, you are saying you've verified that all the items are here and you now acquired the order in your possession.
    • Uber says in the Help Center, that if you get pinged multiple times that there may be additional orders that you can pick up. However, this is ultra-rare for some areas, and there will be additional lines with additional customer names.
    • Someone else picked up the order? Don't worry. Tap the red caution button in the bottom left corner (or "Report issue" button) and tap the reason for delivery cancellation.
    • If there's another problem with the order, your other choices will include "Call Support", "Unable to find pickup", "Too far away", "Excessive wait time", "Order was canceled", "Order was picked up by someone else", "I don't want to do delivery" or "Oversized item"... or for something completely different, tap "Other".
  4. 4
Rate the pickup before moving on. Look for it just below the "Pick up order" (with the customer information) line just above the caution line and Start delivery switch. Tap either the thumb up or thumb down button. If you thumbed it down, you'll get a reason box. You'll have to select a reason and tap "Save" before moving on to see and use the add a comment. Your reasons include: "Poor packaging", "Unprofessional staff", "Hard to find", "Too far", "No parking", "Long wait", "Business note unclear" and "Other".
    • Rating the pickup is a good thing, but it's only given before you move on to delivery. Rating a pickup at a restaurant is completely optional but helps in some cases for Uber to look for patterns in the restaurant's ability to handle UberEATS orders.
    • If you'd like to provide more pick up information, Uber will allow you to add a comment by tapping "Add a comment" then typing into the textbox then pressing Save to submit information about the pick up "good or bad" points.
  5. 5
Begin the delivery of the order. Slide the green and white "Start Delivery" slider to begin the delivery. You will find this at the bottom of the screen to the right of the caution icon (the caution icon gives you a way to "cancel your pickup of the delivery from here." The app may present an audible chime after you slide the bar saying it's ready to navigate you to the customer - but if you don't get it, don't worry (as long as you have the map and address, you're all set)!

Part 3 of 3:

Dropping Off the Food

  1. 1
Read the customer's delivery notes found in "Note from customer" before proceeding. Some will say "Deliver to door", others may say "Wait at car" (some may say wait at car, but mean to say deliver to door). You will need to tap the up-arrow at the bottom left corner of the screen to see this before proceeding to the customer.
    • If delivered to an apartment complex or multi-level building, you'll need the "Apartment" information - also found on this screen. Sometimes with this part of the delivery, Uber Driver can be a bit finicky at times but know this information at all times.
    • Reach out to your customer using this tweaked phone button - either through calling or texting (through texting/Messages), if the note is unclear or (later) if you are close and can't find their location. Few will say to call or text when at their location, but this often means when that they can meet you at the doorway. If you are just coming out from the restaurant, expect to use the phrase "just to be on the same page" in your question.
    • In select areas, curbside pickup is also available for some customers - so don't expect that to commonly-happen.
  2. 2
Navigate using your preferred navigation. If there's only one customer, you'll be open to receiving other back-to-back orders or requests, so keep in mind one may come in and may differ depending on the type.
  3. 3
Park close to the recipient. Delivery points differ for most customers, so use all normal road rules, and follow the directions you are given in your preferred navigation app.
    • Find a safe location such as the customer's parking lot or legally park on-street (depending on the situation) following all parking rules in the area.
  4. 4
Walk up to the customer's door and tap the up-arrow from the bottom left corner if it doesn't open as you get close to the delivery point. You'll need to know the customer's name from this box before dropping it off. Have the bagged food in hand and ready to hand-off.
    • You can also find the customer's name in the ETA bar, much like other trip requests.
  5. 5
Find the recipient based on their delivery details that were directed - including any apartment numbers and/or buildings and get out of your car and walk to them (unless they said to "wait at car"). Be polite and knock on their door, unless they meet you in transit or are ready with the door open and with their arm extended to take the food from you. Greet them with their food by their customer name. Use "Here to drop off (name)'s order," (or something similar) to verify the customer can be found at the delivery address.
    • Always say thank you before leaving their address and marking your delivery as Delivered. You can find the customer's name to the right of "Deliver to" below the ETA line at the bottom of the screen. You can also find it at the top of the "Delivered" dialog box along with customer notes and address below that.
  6. 6
Rate your customers' delivery before marking the order as delivered. Uber will ask you if you'd like to provide more information if you down-thumb it, but will let you mark it delivered if up-thumbed! Rating here is optional but helps Uber maintain it's customer base.
    • If you thumbed it down, you'll get a reason box, and you'll have to select a reason among: "No parking", "Long wait", "Didn't meet outside", "Other" , "Hard to find", "Rude customer" and "Customer note unclear" and tap "Save" before moving on.
      • You can also add a comment if you'd like to explain the situation, which is more likely when you select "Other".
  7. 7
Complete this delivery. Slide the blue and white all-caps "Delivered" slider at the bottom of the order screen. If you have multiple orders to deliver, you will get your navigation once you mark this delivery as delivered and you can proceed to the next location.

  • Question
When picking up a customer's order, am I required to pay for the order and receive payment when I deliver the food? Or does the customer prepay and I pick it up?

With UberEats, orders are prepaid. All you'll need to do is go in and collect the goods. You may have to announce that you have arrived, but even then the customer will be alerted that the delivery person from Uber has arrived and is waiting to deliver the order.

      Tips

      • If all you do is UberEATS deliveries or have turned ride-sharing off for Uber trips (UberX, UberXL or similar), you won't be seen as a car on the map. However, the requests should still come to you when one is available to do.
      • It takes Uber a few additional seconds to process the funds for the deliveries a few additional seconds after the last delivery, so expect a short delay. However, if you don't see funds, relax. If it takes more than fifteen minutes (rare), contact Uber to find out what's happening- as there might be a slight delay in the processing system for the delivery!
      • If you enjoy conversing inside your car's trip, UberEATS deliveries might not be right for you. You may awkwardly talk to the food and expect it to talk right back after being heard without hearing audible words.

      Warnings

      • You will very-rarely see UberEATS deliveries come in as back-to-back requests in some Uber Cities, however, it's possible. Also, it's rare to see them pop up when you have filtered trips feature turned on.
