Create a natural eyebrow look by first determining the natural length of your eyebrows. Once you have determined the length, then begin to fill in your brows. Use a pencil color that is as close to or slightly lighter than the color of your natural eyebrow hair. To add dimension, color in the middle, arching part of your brow with a darker pencil. Set your brows by blending them with a spoolie, applying an eyebrow gel, and defining them with a translucent powder.
Steps
Part 1
Part 1 of 4:
Determining the Length of Your Brow
-
Clean your brows. Use water and a facial cleanser to clear make up, dirt, and debris away from your brows. Make sure your brows are thoroughly dry before you begin. [1] X Research source
-
Hold a pencil at the side of your nose. The pencil should be in line with the corner of your eye and the center of your nostril. Make sure to hold the pencil in a straight position. Observe where the tip of the pencil lands on your brow. This is where your eyebrow should start.
- If you have wide set eyes, you will want to make this gap slightly narrower. If you have close set eyes, you will want to make the gap between the brows wider. [2] X Research source
- Your eyebrow size may need to be adjusted, depending on your unique facial features. A good rule of thumb is that the gap between your eyebrows should be about the length of your eye.

Angle the pencil to find where your brow ends. Angle it 45 degrees from the side of your nostril to the outer corner of your eye. Where the pencil lands is where your brows should end, ideally. Place a dot with a very light colored pencil at this point. This way, when you go to fill in your eyebrows, you have an idea of how far you should go. [3] X Research source
- For people with thick brows, this will also mark the point to which brows should be trimmed or tweezed.
- As a general rule of thumb, the end of your brow should be at a 45-degree angle from the outside corner of your eye.

Part 2 of 4:
Shaping Your Brow
-
Create uniform thickness on the inner part of your eye, then taper off. The inner part of your eyebrow near your nose should be thicker than the outer tail of the eyebrow. Make sure that this inner thick part of the brow is uniform in size. As you taper off after the arch, narrow the brow to a tip. [4] X Research source
-
Make sure each side of your arch is the same length. The thick part of your eyebrow on the inside of your eye should be the same length as the narrow part of your eyebrow. This makes your eyes look bigger. [5] X Research source
-
Pluck your outer eyebrow if it extends below the inner corner. The tail of your eyebrow should not go lower than the front of your eyebrow, so you will need to pluck the excess hairs if it does. [6] X Expert Source Miranda Mendelson

Trim your brows if they are too long. Brush your brows up and toward your temples. If the brow hairs are too long or look messy, use a small pair of personal care scissors, such as nail scissors or mustache scissors, to trim the hairs. [8] X Research source [9] X Expert Source Miranda Mendelson

Filling in Your Brow
-
Brush your brow with a spoolie. Starting with one of your brows, brush it in an upward motion. [10] X Expert Source Miranda Mendelson
Makeup & Beauty Specialist Expert Interview. 9 August 2021. Brushing your brows in an upward motion will help you see the shape of your brow, as well as where you need to fill it in to get a smooth, even look. [11] X Research source -
Begin to fill in your brow. To fill in your brow, use an eyebrow pencil that is as close to or slightly lighter than the color of your natural eyebrow hair. Using short feathery strokes, lightly fill in the gaps and sparse areas in the middle, arching portions of your brow. [12] X Research source
- Do not overly fill in the inside corners and ends of your brow. These are the areas where you want to go the lightest with your pencil.
- Create a balanced look on both sides. If one eyebrow is thicker, use a pencil to thicken the other brow.
-
Assess your look. Make sure to step away from the mirror and assess your look every minute or two while you are filling in your brow. This way you can correct your look if your brow looks too dark or if the coloring is uneven. [13] X Research source
-
Add depth with a darker pencil. After you have filled in your brow with a light pencil, go in with a darker pencil to add dimension. Using gentle pressure and short strokes, fill in the middle, active portions of your brow with the darker pencil.
- Try not to fill in the inner corners and ends of your brow with the darker pencil.
- Repeat steps one through four on your other eyebrow, checking frequently for balance.

Setting the Look
-
Blend your eyebrows. To blend your brows, use a spoolie. Following the shape of your brow, brush your brow two or three times to get a blended, natural look. [14] X Research source
-
Apply eyebrow gel. Brush your eyebrows with an eyebrow gel to set your look. The gel will hold your eyebrow hairs in place and give them a refined look. [15] X Research source
-
Define with translucent powder. Dip a small, eye shadow brush in translucent powder. Then trace the perimeter of your brows. This will define the shape of your brows and give them a clean, sharp look. [16] X Research sourceAdvertisement
