Part 1
Part 1 of 2:
Finding the Lava Crystals
-
1Speak to Cosmo. Once you spawn in the adventure, he'll appear beside you and tell you that you'll have to defeat the Phantom King by venturing deeper into the hive.
- Throughout the adventure, you'll find a new type of obstacle - phantom pods.
-
2Go through the pathway. Go up and then follow the pathway left, then up again. Destroy any phantom pods or phantom webs in the way.
- As you continue through the adventure, you'll come across large clumps of phantom pods which you may have to destroy to get through pathways. Destroying a phantom pod, however, rewards gems and courage points, so destroying large clumps of them can come in handy if you want to level up your animal.
- Some items increase the amount of damage your animal can inflict even if they don't have an animation when you attack a phantom obstacle. Items like these include spiked collars, stegosaurus tails, gazelle horns, etc. These items can also increase the damage of other items as well as deal damage of their own, even if they don't have an animation when you attack. A list of items like these can be found here .

3Speak to Greely. After you destroy the second phantom web, Greely will appear. He'll tell you that the hive is filled with danger and that the Phantom King seems to be preparing for something. He'll tell you that should turn back, but once he disappears, keep going along the pathway. Destroy any phantom pods in your way. You'll cross a stone bridge over a vast number of phantom pods below you.
-
4Talk to Cosmo again. Continue along the pathway until you arrive at a fire emblem with four holes around the bottom of it. Go left and Cosmo should appear again. He'll wonder about what Greely was doing, and then instruct you to find the four lava crystals that should fit into the holes around the emblem. The lava crystals will allow you to open the door in front of the emblem, which will lead you to the Phantom King.
- Before you begin to search for the four lava crystals, grab a torch as well as some boomseeds. You'll come across phantoms, and the hive will be shrouded in darkness. The torch will also help you light any fire drums in order to allow yourself passage throughout the hive.
-
5Find the first lava crystal. Go left to enter the pathway. Move along the path and destroy pods. Light the first fire drum you come across and cross the bridge. Destroy the phantom with a boomseed. Go down diagonally left from the phantom pod that was near the phantom. Follow the pathway - it will go down and then diagonally left again. Destroy the next phantom you'll see. Go left and destroy the phantom pod blocking the path up. Light the fire drum and destroy the phantom pod in your way. Go left again and destroy the third phantom pod. Go up diagonally left and kill the phantom. Go up and destroy the fourth phantom pod. Go right. Destroy another phantom pod. Light the fire drum. Follow the path, destroy another phantom, and go up. Light two more fire drums left. Follow the path diagonally left up and destroy phantoms along the way. You'll find the first lava crystal.
- To get back to Cosmo, go back diagonally down right and over the mushroom bridges you lit. Then go down and follow the path. When you reach the previously lit bridge, go over it and go down, following the path till it goes right. Go over the bridge, then up diagonally right. Go up a little, diagonally up right, over the bridge, right, and you'll reach the area with the emblem.
- This crystal may be in a second area. After you destroy the second phantom when you first start out the adventure, go down diagonally left to the small pathway and destroy the phantom pod. Go a little more down to get the next lava crystal. To get back to Cosmo, simply follow the path back and keep going right or diagonally up right, depending on how the path changes.
-
6Grab the second lava crystal. Go left from where Cosmo is into the beginning of all pathways. Follow the path you previously went on diagonally down to the left. Go left until you find another phantom pod. Destroy it. Go up slightly and you'll find the second lava crystal.
- To get back, go down, right, and then up diagonally up right following the path. Then go right and over the mushroom bridge until you reach the area with Cosmo.
- The second crystal may be in another area. Go up from where you found the first lava crystal and destroy the phantom pod. Light the fire drum and kill the phantom. Light another fire drum and kill the second phantom to your left. Go left, destroy a phantom pod, and destroy a third phantom. Follow the pathway and you'll find the second lava crystal. To get back, simply follow the pathway up and as it curves down to a U shape. Then go down, over the mushroom bridge, and keep going right or diagonally right till you reach Cosmo.
-
7Get the third lava crystal. Go left from where Cosmo is. Go down, then diagonally down left, once again following the pathway. Keep going until you see the path you already uncleared and a mushroom bridge, which you should have already lit from when you got the first lava crystal. Go left then up. Follow the path right. Go over the mushroom bridge and go up diagonally left. Go up, then go down. You should find a patch of boomseeds. Destroy the phantom in the area with them. Then go slightly more diagonally down right and you'll find the third lava crystal.
- To get back, go up, then right. Follow the pathway down. Go over the bridge. Follow the pathway down, then right and over the bridge. Then go up diagonally right, up, and further right till you reach the area with Cosmo.
- The third crystal may be in another area. Go left from where Cosmo is. Go down, then diagonally down left, once again following the pathway. Keep going until you see the path you already uncleared and a mushroom bridge, which you should have already lit from when you got the first lava crystal. Go up it. Follow the path right. Go over the mushroom bridge and go up diagonally left. Light a mushroom bridge and kill the two phantoms. Then light another drum and follow the pathway up and left. Kill the phantom near the patch of boomseeds. Go up, light the drum, and kill the phantom. You'll see a ladder. Kill the phantoms below it. Go left. Destroy the pod. Kill the phantoms near the boomseed pile. Go down diagonally right. You'll find the third lava crystal.
- To get back, follow the pathway right. Go over the bridge, right, down, and follow the pathway diagonally down left. Go down, over a bridge, then keep going right or diagonally right till you reach Cosmo.
-
8Retrieve the fourth lava crystal. Go left from where Cosmo is. Follow the pathway till you see the mushroom bridge that leads to the pathway that goes up left diagonally, which should be lit from when you retrieved the other crystals. Go left, then up. Go up and then follow the pathway, going over the bridge. Continue following the pathway up, then cross the next bridge and the one you see after that. You should reach an area with boomseeds where you should have already collected a crystal from. Go right and destroy the pod and the phantom. Go up and destroy the next two phantoms. You will see a ladder. Go up it and destroy the phantom. Light the fire drum and destroy the 2 phantoms. Go up and you'll find the horse passageway. Down right from it, there'll be another ladder. Destroy the next phantom and light the fire drum, then repeat. Go down, kill the phantom, and grab the fourth crystal.
- To get back, light the fire drum next to the crystal (you'll need to drop the crystal and grab a torch which not far up) and kill the phantom. Go down, kill the second phantom, and light another fire drum. Go over that bridge and you'll be taken straight to the area with Cosmo and the fire emblem. Be sure to grab the lava crystal once again after you light the drums. It shouldn't be too far from where you were.
- The fourth crystal may be in another area. From where the first ladder you found was (when you're trying to find the second version of the third crystal's area), go right, and down another ladder. Follow the pathway right, lighting a mushroom bridge. Go up and light another mushroom bridge. Light a third, kill the phantom, and get the fourth lava crystal. To get back, simply go over the bridges and pathways you went along before, retracing your steps.
-
9Go through the door. When you've found and inserted all four lava crystals into the emblem, Cosmo will appear. He'll explain how you'll need to defeat the Phantom King and wish you good luck. The door in front of the emblem will sink into the floor. Go through it and you'll see an animation of the Phantom King appearing to you.Advertisement

Part 2 of 2:
Defeating the Phantom King
-
1Head beneath the phantom king. After watching the animation, you'll be spawned on a large stone platform surrounded by lava. Go underneath the Phantom King. This will cause him to stretch his legs as he prepares to slam down on the ground.
-
2Get out from underneath the Phantom King's range quickly. Just before the Phantom King slams down on the ground, you'll see a purple circle around him which represents his range. If you are inside that range or very close to it when he slams down on the ground, you'll lose 1 1/2 of your hearts. When you go underneath him and he notices, get out as quickly as you can and far enough out of his range so that you don't get hit. Be close enough to attack him afterwards though.
-
3Drop a boomseed underneath the Phantom King. After the Phantom King slams down on the ground, he will become disoriented for about 10 seconds. In this short amount of time, drag a boomseed from the icon at the top left and drop it right underneath the Phantom King. If you need boomseeds, small boomseed packs will appear around the platform throughout the battle. You'll need to use boomseeds on the Phantom King a total of 10 times to defeat him. Make sure you don't place the boomseed above the Phantom King's body or it won't affect him. To be sure it will work, place it just below his head underneath his eye.
-
4Kill any phantoms summoned during the battle. Every two times you harm the Phantom King with a boomseed, he will summon phantoms to assist him. Each time, more and more phantoms will be summoned. If you don't kill the phantoms, you'll run into them as you try to defeat the Phantom King throughout the battle, which will make it even more difficult to defeat him and knock you out several times. So when the Phantom King summons phantoms, it is better to destroy first with boomseeds and then continue with the battle. This also gives you more courage points and prevents phantoms from building up throughout the battle.
-
5Pick up boomseeds if you need any. There will be clumps of three boomseeds that randomly appear across the stone platform during the battle. Possible places that clumps of boomseeds can appear in are at the top, bottom, left, and right corners or in the very center of the platform. Stay out of any phantoms' ranges as well as the Phantom King's range as you attempt to retrieve them.
-
6Stay near or at the center of the platform throughout the battle. It's better to stay between the center and the edges of the platform though, since only one clump of boomseeds will appear there at a time once you use the first ones provided to you across the platform, and if any do appear, it has a higher chance of being in one of the corners. However, be sure not to stay in the edges or the corners of the platform either. If you aren't pressing against the edges or corners, you'll be able to pick up boomseeds more easily and staying around the center will make it easier for you to navigate. If you stay somewhere in a corner, phantoms or even the Phantom King may corner you, which will lead to loss of life easily.
-
7Continue the process. Dodge the Phantom King and drop boomseeds underneath him while he is disoriented. Kill any phantoms that he summons as well. You'll need to drop boomseeds on him 10 times and then he will disappear, escaping in defeat. You will also gain 200 courage points once you've finished. If you didn't kill any phantoms, but you hit the Phantom King with boomseeds 10 times, those phantoms will automatically disappear.
-
8Claim your reward. Once the Phantom King disappears, go to the adventure portal diagonally up and left of the platform. Cosmo will appear and congratulate you for completing the adventure. You will be given five chests, which you can choose one prize from. The prizes for hard mode are shown in the image.Advertisement

Tips
- There are two different versions of the adventure, randomly selected when you join the hard mode of The Hive. In one version, lava crystals are each placed in a designated area. In the second version, lava crystals are each placed in a second designated area. The first section of each step describes how to find the lava crystals from the first version, so follow those if you find the first lava crystal using the first section of the step. If not, that means the crystals are in the version 2 layout, so use the third sections of each step (which describe the second area where the crystal will be if you didn't find it using the paths to the first version locations of the crystals) to find the second possible locations of the crystals. This will help you more easily find the crystals, as the two versions will never be intermixed. Thanks
- Even if you get hit by the Phantom King, he will still be disoriented, so you still have a chance at hitting him with a boomseed. Thanks
- If you are cornered and there are many phantoms, move toward the small square platform where the Zios checkpoint is. The Phantom King and his phantoms will not be able to follow you there. Kill phantoms from that area with boomseeds until it's clear enough for you to enter the battle platform again. Thanks
