1Open chests. Every four hours, you can collect a free chest from the game. You can find your chest on the first screen upon entering the app, the one that says, "Take the idol, if you dare." 3Watch a video clip. For every clip you watch, you will earn one gem. You can't do this continuously, as they only have so many adds to show you, but you can check in every once in a while.

4Buy gems. Like most games, Temple Run 2 has in-app purchases. You can buy either 50, 110, 240, or 650 gems at a time, with prices ranging from 5 US dollars to 50 US dollars.

6Use the gem power-up. As you collect coins during the game, they will fill the meter on your left. Once the meter is full, you can double-tap your screen to reap your reward.
- You can increase this boost with gems. It may seem counterintuitive, but ultimately, you gain a profit. It takes 40 gems to boost the power-up. After boosting it, every time you double-tap the screen, you will get six gems instead of one. At first, you only gain a profit of two. After you've gained back the 40 gems you invested, however, you'll get a profit of six.
- The gem boost is only accessible once you reach level thirteen in the game.

7Complete challenges. Daily and weekly challenges are great chances for earning gems. Whether the challenge is collecting a certain number of pick-ups, spending a certain amount of coins, or running a certain distance, you will get a coin or gem reward after finishing, depending on the difficulty of the challenge.
