Like its Nintendo 64 predecessor, Diddy Kong Racing DS contains a key in one racetrack in each of the four worlds. While in the Nintendo 64 version, these keys opened a door that led to a battle minigame, in the Nintendo DS version, these keys lead to a race against T.T the Clock. Like the Nintendo 64 version, winning this race will grant you a piece of the T.T Amulet, which is required to win the game. This wikiHow will teach you how to obtain the 4 Wish Door Keys in Diddy Kong Racing DS.

Method 1
Method 1 of 4:

Dino Domain Key

  1. This can be obtained by winning the kart race against Taj the Genie that you are required to complete before being allowed to enter any of the worlds.
  2. This world can be found up the yellow ramp towards the center of the overworld. You should notice a large orange and blue door, with a balloon symbol that has a "1" in the middle of it. This is the door that you want to enter.

  3. You should be able to find this world straight ahead from where you entered. This door is also orange and blue, with a balloon symbol that has a "1" symbol in the middle of it. However, unlike the main door to this world, this door opens from the bottom.
    • The tracks are labeled, so if you're having trouble, look for the door that has the words "Ancient Lake" written above it.
  4. It's okay if other racers pass you, since your goal isn't necessarily to win this attempt.
  5. Towards the start of the racetrack, you should notice a stone platform on an incline. At the top of this platform should be a key in the style of dinosaur bones. Drive toward this.
    • It's also a good idea to grab a blue balloon from the section of blue and red balloons to make this task a little easier.
  6. The more centered you are, the easier grabbing the key should be.
  7. As you're driving up the platform, use the blue balloon. Eventually (though it may take a few tries, especially if you've decided not to grab the blue balloon), you should grab the key successfully.
  8. Next to the area for the boss door, you should notice a stone archway. Drive through this (along with another stone archway), and you should notice the Wish Door slightly to the left.

Method 2
Method 2 of 4:

Snowflake Mountain Key

  1. From the main area of the overworld, you can either go through the tunnel inside the waterfall on the righthand side of the Dino Domain area, or fly through the snow-themed tunnel located next to the tunnel in the waterfall. Whether you choose the first or second option, you should travel through the tunnel and enter a snow-themed area. You should notice a door straight ahead that looks similar to the Dino Domain entrance. This is the door you want to enter.
    • No matter which method you use to get to Snowflake Mountain, be aware that you will need to be using a plane to access this world, since the door is located on a cliff that you can't drive up.
  2. This is the minimum amount of balloons required to enter the track that contains the Wish Door key.
  3. From the entrance to Snowflake Mountain, the entrance to Snowball Valley should be located slightly to the left of the walrus statue (like Dino Domain, the area above this door should be labeled).
  4. This key is located off the track, in an area immediately to the left of the beginning of the track, in between two ice pillars.
    • Don't worry if you see the words "Wrong Way" pop up on your screen. You won't be sent back to the starting line or penalized in any other way.
  5. You should notice a snow/ice themed key in this alcove. This is the Snowflake Mountain Wish Door key.
  6. Next to the boss igloo area, head to the right. A little further to the right should be the Wish Door.

Method 3
Method 3 of 4:

Sherbet Island Key

  1. This world is located through a small rock tunnel on the far left-hand side of the main part of the overworld, in a beach-themed area. Once you're in this area, the door to Sherbet Island (which looks identical to the Dino Domain and Snowflake Mountain doors) is located a bit further out in an ocean area. The door should be on a rock, which is in between two palm trees.
    • You can use any vehicle to get to this area; however, using a hovercraft or plane might be easier since you have to travel on water to get to this world, and karts tend to drive slower on water.
  2. This is the minimum number of golden balloons required to enter the racetrack that contains the Wish Door Key for Sherbet Island.
  3. From the entrance to Sherbet Island, you should notice Crescent Island slightly to the left of the palm tree statue in the center of the world.
  4. Once the race starts, you'll notice two paths. You'll want to take the left one that does not contain the large tunnel.
  5. Once you're finished taking the left path, the left and right paths combine once again to form one race track. Once this happens, you'll want to veer off to the left. You should notice a small pool.
  6. Once you find and enter the pool, you should eventually notice the pirate-themed key located in the middle of this pool.
    • Be aware that obtaining this key may take a minute, since you're traveling in a kart, which as mentioned earlier, travels slower than a hovercraft or plane on water.
  7. Unlike the other levels, the Sherbet Island Wish Door is not located in a hidden area. Instead, it's located out in the open, next to the area for the boss door.

Method 4 of 4:

Dragon Forest Key

  1. This level is a bit more hidden than some of the previous ones. From by the tent in the overworld, head to the second waterfall on the left of the Wizpig head. Once you enter it, you should notice a door similar to the previous 3, only this time with the number "16" on it. If you have the required number of balloons, enter this door.
  2. This is the minimum amount of golden balloons that you must have in order to enter the racetrack containing the Dragon Forest Wish Door key.
  3. From the entrance to Dragon Forest, Boulder Canyon is located to the right of the dragon statue (it is slightly hidden, so you may need to drive around the statue to see the entrance).
  4. Your boost should be at the purple level. These balloons can either be collected earlier on in the race, or at the drawbridge section (which will be discussed below).
  5. Travel to the other side of this drawbridge, noticing a bell at the other end.
  6. If done correctly, the drawbridge should move up.
  7. You should now be facing the raised drawbridge, and you may notice the key in the area that this raised drawbridge leads to.
  8. You should speed up, and reach the area with the key.
  9. The drawbridge is only raised for a limited time, meaning you may not make it to that top area on your first attempt. Try your best to move quickly, and eventually, you should collect the key.
  10. Near the boss door area, you should notice a tree stump with a red arrow pointing downwards. Inside this tree stump and to the left is the Wish Door for Dragon Forest.

      Tips

      • Be aware that since your second time on the racetrack is not an actual race, and you won't be able to return to the first version of the race until you've beaten the boss twice, you'll need to either collect the key during your first race or after you've beaten the entire world.
      • While there is a fifth world, Future Fun Land, note that there is no key to obtain in this world. As mentioned in the introduction, keys are only able to be found in the first four worlds.
      • Once you've grabbed the key, you don't have to attempt to finish the race if you don't want to. Instead, you can simply exit the course and the key will still count.
