My gay awakening was/is my best friend. We're still bffs and I haven't told her about my feelings. Every day when we hang out at school I feel like I'm hiding something from her by not telling her that I like her but I also don't want to ruin our friendship by telling her and making things weird between us. I really don't know what to do because I don't want to lose her :(

So, I guess I've ALWAYS been LGBTQ, but I never had a word for it when I was younger, because looking back on it, I was in no way straight. I'm shocked it took me so long to find out though. One of my first LGBTQ crushes was actually one of my closest friends back in first grade, but I didn't realize it at the time.

The thing that really opened the portal to the LBGTQ+ world for me was watching She-Ra and the Princesses of Power when I was like, 7. I had a few crushes on boys, but, honestly, I was quite young then. Now, after 2 years of being in the LBGTQ+ community, I am a demi-romantic, demi-girl and non-binary lesbian.

I was a freshman in high school, maybe it was stupid but I was attracted to a boy as a girl. He was kind, sweet and introverted. One day I saw him at a school reunion where only girls were present, I was shocked. It was actually a girl. I felt like throwing up all day. Days passed but I couldn't lose my interest and attraction towards him. It was strange, I always thought I was straight but I had never liked anyone in my life for more than a week. So I thought if I didn't see him I might be asexual. I had a crush on him when I think he is a boy but he was a girl. It took me weeks to accept that he was a girl. Even after I accepted it I couldn't lose my feelings. His happiness or words would change my whole day. We never got close to that girl, months, even year passed and I still have a platonic love for him. I never told anyone because there are so many homophobes in the country I live in. Also if I had told my family about the idea of ​​being bisexual I would probably be disowned.

I've always questioned my identity. When I was eleven I (I'm a guy) developed a crush on another male at church. Church camp ended, I lost feelings, and I went back to assuming I was straight, but I still had that little gay in me. My friends are obsessed with Genshin Impact, and one friend was showing me some of the characters, and I thought some of the girls were cute. My friend told me I might be bisexual. As I kept researching, I found that I might be more comfortable with biromantic, since I am on the younger side. I find girls more attractive than boys, and I don't have a "type" for girls like I do with boys. After I had a Health Reproduction class, (iykyk) and I found intimacy and sexual contact to be quite gross and uncomfortable, I think I am finally able to say that I am biromantic and asexual. I was at this ‘social’ my school was hosting (basically a dance) and my friend was in this really cute minidress that was sorta like a tank top with a skirt attached (super cute) and she asked me if I wanted to dance. In middle school we had this leadership club, where, on Tuesdays, we would stay after school and put together fun things to do for/at the school. I was in spirit days with a lot of people. I used to struggle with comphet so I've been confused about my sexual orientation, but sooner I realized that I was never genuinely attracted to guys. I grew up religious but never having that hate for LGBT phase (just didn't care what anyone did since it was none of my business) and in middle school i thought i had a crush on this girl and came out as Bi but in high school i realized i just admired her socially and was fond of her in more of a friendly way but i had also came out as transgender (ftm) and pansexual and at the time i just really liked girls and guys with a preference to guys. I still got a crush on my female friend but the thought of anything sexual with her ended up being switched to any male random imaginary boy rather than her so i just assumed i was pushing it and that it was just me not wanting to sexualize my close friend, however nowadays as i think about it i feel like i am gay but i think being transgender made me push away the attraction to just men in fear of being considered cisgendered (since i don't pass) and all that is fine but I'm still not sure if i do find women romantically attractive, and this whole realization has made me both a bit sad and sick in a way, like I'm not sure if my internalized transphobia towards myself just killed any idea that i could ever be male and live as a man and that's why this realization of possibly being gay has made me so sad and ill at the knowledge that this was all self-inflicted for years of being on the internet as a kid and hearing horror stories of other men's transgender experience, and gay trans men specifically.

Okay, so honestly, i've known for a while... but my parents are homophobic, transphobic, etc. So its been hard for me to be comfortable in my own skin. I thought I was just reading gay fanfictions/watching gay movies because I was supporting my sister, who is also a lesbian. I didn't realise I was gay even though I literally had a poster of a bunch of pretty women who I said I "looked up to," when in reality I had a crush on them! (this included Chloe Grace Moretz, Camila Cabello and Kate McKinnon. I still have a huuuuuge crush on Kate McKinnon!!!!). Then I met a girl at school I had a crush on, which finally proved to me I didn't just hypothetical like women, who were unattainable celebrity crushes, but I liked girls in real life, too. And I haven't had a crush on a boy since I was 8 years old, so that solidified the conviction that I'm 🌈gay🌈 :)
