Tomodachi Life is a Nintendo 3DS game where you are free to create Miis (characters) and let them live their life on an island. The more Miis your island has, the more fun the game gets. They form relationships and have their own personalities and preferences! This wikiHow explains how to populate your island.
Steps
-
1Go to the town hall. The town hall should be in between the houses and the apartments. Double tap on the bottom screen with your stylus to enter.
-
2Select the New Mii option. It should be the first option and have a picture of a smiley face with a green plus next to it.Advertisement
-
3Decide how you are going to make the Mii. You can start from scratch, create from photos, or transfer from the Mii maker app.
-
4Pick what gender you want your Mii to be. Bear in mind that you cannot change your Mii's gender later on in the game and that whatever gender you pick will have an effect on who they can marry, etc.
- Same-sex marriage doesn't exist in the game, so if you want a gay relationship you will have to set one of the Mii's gender as the opposite as it is.
-
5Choose how your Mii will look. You have an option of different face shapes and features, hairstyles and colours, eyebrows, eyes, noses, mouths, glasses, facial hair, and sizes. You can make the Mii look like a real-life person or you can just make them look how you'd like.
- If you want a hair colour that is unnatural or not given in the selection here, don't worry! In the game, there is a "hair colour" item where your Mii can apply hair colour to itself from a wide rainbow of choices.
- You can change the size and placement of features such as eyes, eyebrows, noses, glasses, moles, mustaches and mouths.
-
6Go to the next page and select the name of the Mii. You have to select a first name, second name, and nickname. The system will say it how they think it is pronounced, and if it is inaccurate, you can click the little button with a picture of the speaker next to it and spell it how it is pronounced with simple syllables.
-
7Give the day, month, and year of the Mii's birthday. The year is especially important as that has an effect on who their special someone can be.
- Your Mii will grow older with real time passing by (exception is babies born; they will grow much quicker).
- The Mii's birthday will affect their compatibility with other Mii's as it is based off their zodiac.
-
8Select if they're a child or adult if you haven't given the year your Mii was born. There's really no difference between the two, except that adults can marry and have children without the use of an age-o-matic.
- Except in the Korean and Japanese version of the game, adult and children Miis cannot be in a relationship together.
- You can use an age-o-matic or kid-o-matic to make a Mini into an adult or child without changing their birthday.
-
9State any relationship they have with you. This is important as it assures you that you won't fall for a relationship with your sibling or parent in the game. If they aren't related to you in any way, you don't need to worry about that setting as it should say "Not Related". If it doesn't, change it so it does.
-
10Pick the Mii's favorite colour. That will be the colour that their default outfit should be, and if they have any hair bobbles or default hats (the ones selected with the hair), the colour of them.
- This can affect their clothing preferences (of the clothes you later give them in the game) as well.
-
11Write the name of the creator. It isn't necessary but it is recommended if you want to share Miis through StreetPass or if you share the game with someone.
-
12Go on to the next page and choose what their voice sounds like. The basic options are boy, girl, man, woman, old man, and old woman. You can click the ? button for a random voice or press the custom button to calibrate the exact voice you want your Mii to have with some spectrums.
- It's recommended not to pick a too-high of a voice, as hearing that whenever your Mii speaks sounds a bit harsh on the ears. Pick something that you won't mind hearing!
-
13Go to the last page and select your Mii's personality. That will affect how they act within the game. Your Miis will form friendships and relationships with Miis who have agreeing personalities, and their moods will depend on this as well.
-
14Press Confirm and view your Mii's personality given. When you have read it and are happy, press OK . That's your Mii!
- Your new Mii will be moved into a new, empty apartment room.

Tips
- You can always go back and edit some stuff about them later on, such as their features. Thanks
- If you don't like them later on, you can always delete them by going to the Town Hall and choosing to delete islanders. This will cost £21 in the UK game, and $21 in the US game. Thanks
- If you have too many Miis on your island, you can send off grown kids (babies from your married Miis) to StreetPass, where they will visit other islands. This option will show when they grow up and ask you if they should stay or leave. If you send a Mii out exploring you cannot undo your decision later on.Thanks
