There's no way to give a precise answer, as it depends on how defined your muscles are to start with and how much fat is camouflaging them, as well as how intense your push up workouts are. However, if you eat a lot of lean protein, get plenty of sleep and give your biceps a day to rest and grow in between workouts, and try different push up methods such as diamond push ups when conventional push ups become too easy, you should notice a significant change in about six weeks.

  • Question
How does testosterone affect building muscle?
    Community Answer
Androgens are protein anabolic, that's why there are performance enhancing drugs. If you are talking about building upper body strength, androgens are more effective, but may be less effective for lower body because androgen receptors tend to concentrate in the upper part of your body. Androgens may have beneficial effects regarding athletics, however there are severe side effects. These side effects may include liver cancer (steroid metabolism by liver), reduced reproduction (negative feedback, inhibit releasing and tropic hormones in brain) leading to lack of gonadal growth and sterility.
  • Question

    Community Answer
Absolutely. It might take longer, because you probably have less testosterone than an adult, but you can still build muscle. Just be careful not to not lift heavy weights too often, because this can make you not grow as tall as you could have. Try doing bodyweight exercises whenever possible.
  • Question
What are some safe exercises I can do if I had angioplasty and want to put on weight and increase my biceps and thigh muscles?
    Community Answer
All the exercises above are good, like the Barbell Wrist Curls: Sit at a bench holding a weighted barbell with your forearms resting on your thighs. Raise the barbell as high as it can go using only the muscles in your hands and forearms, then let these muscles relax to let the weight hang as low as it can. Repeat. For a complete workout, try reversing your grip with each set.
  • Question
How often should I do deadlifts in a week?
    Raphael Key
    Top Answerer
As a general rule, unless your routine explicitly states otherwise, don't perform an exercise two days in a row. More specifically, each muscle you exercise should be given 24-48 hours of rest between workouts. The deadlift works the back and leg muscles, which are also exercised by the barbell back squat. if you want to perform both exercises, then simply alternate the exercises with each workout. Say you work out Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Monday squat, Wednesday deadlift, Friday squat. Then next week: Monday deadlift, Wednesday squat. You get the idea.
  • Question
Would seated curls with my elbows tucked on the inside of my thighs be good for building my arms fast?
    Raphael Key
    Top Answerer
No, or at least, it's no more effective than curls any other way. my advice for curls would be to always perform them standing straight, as this forces you to avoid cheating reps, and makes you concentrate more on the exercise.
  • Question
What is an overhead lift when building my arms?
    Raphael Key
    Top Answerer
The overhead press helps build the shoulders and triceps (the back of your arm). It's an excellent movement for muscle growth as it uses multiple muscles and you should be able to lift bigger weights than in bicep curls or tricep extensions. Look up "overhead press" "Arnold press" and "military press", which are all similar exercises.
  • Question
I am 40 years of age and I have been working out for the past year. And I haven’t seen much by way of results on my biceps. What can I do to get bigger arms and not get more belly weight?
    Raphael Key
    Top Answerer
If you want to avoid gaining weight whilst keeping as much muscle as possible, you're going to have to keep your calories low whilst maintaining a high protein intake. Use an online calorie calculator to find out how many calories your body needs to maintain mass, then lower the calories if you want to lose weight.
  • Question
Do I need more weight for presses? What is a good weight for the bar?
    Community Answer
A good weight is one in which you can do 8 - 12 reps with proper form while feeling a good burn and bear failure for the final 2 - 3 reps. If you can easily do a set at a certain weight, then it’s time to increase; just be sure to focus on technique rather than how much weight is on the bar.
  • Question
How can I lose belly fat and build muscle quickly?
    Community Answer
Eat lots of good protein (chicken, fish, lean beef), drink lots of water throughout the day, do cardio daily (but avoid doing excess cardio on lift days), lift heavy and get plenty of sleep.
  • Question
Can I do this if I am still a preteen?
    Community Answer
I would avoid any serious lifting if you’re that young; you want to wait for your body to develop slightly more and produce enough testosterone and hormones for muscle repair. If anything, stick to body-weight exercises like push-ups/pull-ups and maybe curls.
