It should fire at 85 feet per second or less. Shooting younger kids with a high-powered nerf gun is not a good idea. It should be drum/cylinder fed, or use a smart AR system. Magazines can be challenging for younger kids to load. Most importantly, the kid you are buying for should like the design. It doesn't matter if it isn't the best gun. As long as your kids likes it, it's good.
