Yes, you can show your hairdresser pictures of a haircut that you like. You don’t have to let them choose, but they will give you their opinion as to how the cut would look on you, etc. However, if you’re indecisive about the cut that you want, you can let the stylist choose if you trust their judgement.

Yes you can put your hair into a ponytail and cut off the bulk of it and then clean up the cut. Doing so is a great idea and it will help you perform the final cut better since you don’t have all of that extra hair in the way.

The best is to shape it with scissors, like layering, and then use the clippers on it to even it out. Then use scissors again for any stray hairs.
  • Question
I have a straight nose, what's the best cut?
    Josh1997
    Community Answer
There are various styles you could try, some more flamboyant than others. You could either do layers by cutting to your shoulders, a pixie cut, or go super short by cutting it to the shortest length using scissors and then using clippers to finish it off. You could even slightly taper it on the side and spike it a bit or do a quiff.
  • Question
I pulled my hair into a ponytail, and I felt nervous about just chopping off my hair. Should I?
    Community Answer
You're always going to feel nervous, because it's a big change. If you want to cut your hair, you should do it. Remember that it will grow back, and you can always experiment with different styles until you're happy, or even get extensions if you really hate it.
  • Question
My hair goes a bit below my shoulders, and I really want to try a fresh, new look, preferably short hair. I am excited, but really, really scared. What should I do?
    Josh1997
    Community Answer
This can be daunting and strange at first, as it’s a new style, but you’ll get used to it. A short style is actually really trendy for girls right now. Do it gradually by letting your hairdresser cut your hair off to your shoulders, this will let you get used to the feeling. When you're ready, proceed with scissors to a bob cut. Once you get there, finish by tapering it with the clippers, this will get rid of your long hair and even each side. Leave the top longer for a quiff. To make you feel better, you could donate your hair to make wigs.
  • Question

  • Question
How do I go to a hairstylist and ask for a haircut when I have long hair?

Start by asking what the hairdresser thinks would suit you. Most of the time just ask for a trim or layers unless you want a drastic change.
  • Question
How do I style my long hair?
    Community Answer
Try a long French or Dutch braid. It keeps all the hair out of the face and it looks good. If you can't do a French or Dutch braid, then ponytails are great. Consider doing your ponytails at different heights to switch up your style. Also using a headband is always a great way to spice it up!

  • Question
I have long curly hair but I want a short pixie cut will it look good or will I look dumb?
    Josh1997
    Community Answer
Of course not, lots of people try new styles to be fresh. It will look great as pixie cuts are really trendy and retro for girls. Take the plunge and have your long curly hair cut off as short as you can so it's snipped off to your jaw length like a bob, then, have the back and tapered slightly more with the clippers so your hair is shorter on those areas. Leave the top slightly longer and trim your fringe. You could leave a wispy curl by your ears for style, and enjoy your new look. Feel free to use hair product to style.
