Yes, Articuno is great against all of Lance's Dragonairs and Dragonites and grass types, Zapdos is great for any flying Pokemon, and Moltres is great against grass types (Venusaur/Exeggutor) and Lorelei's Jynx. And all of them do great against Bruno's Fighting Pokes. However, be careful with Rock types like Onix and Rhydon, since Articuno and Moltres are both 4x weak against rock, and Zapdos is 2x weak.

Articuno is weak to Bruno’s two Onix, Agatha’s Arbok (which knows Iron Tail, a move which is super effective against Articuno), and Lance’s Aerodactyl (and Charizard is you chose Bulbasaur). Zapdos and Moltres are weak to most of Lorelei’s Pokémon. Zapdos has the least weaknesses and Articuno has the most.

Tips for training Pokémon to high levels: 1. Don’t dodge trainer battles. Battle everyone you come across. You can even go back for seconds later on. 2. Battle every wild Pokémon. Don’t skip any. No matter how meaningless the battle may seem, do it anyway. 3. Once through victory road, go into elite 4 and heal. Go back to before victory road to the grass and look for wild Fearows. Amazing EXP for beating those.
