Blue and brown could work, especially if your natural brown has cool undertones. Try holding some swatches up to your natural hair to see what color combinations you like. You can find these at beauty supply stores.

Purple will barely be seen on black hair. If the dye does take, it will most likely be a very dark purple tint. If you want the purple to be vibrant, it would be better if you bleached your ends first, and then applied the dye.

A medium ash blonde should complement blue well, just select a blue tone that leans more toward blue-violet than turquoise.

    Expert Answer
If your hair is naturally blonde and has not been previously colored, you will be able to achieve a visible result with permanent color instead of bleach. Depending on the brightness of your natural color, you may also be able to use semi-permanent dyes (like Manic Panic), but the result will be less vivid than if you applied it over bleached hair.
  • Question
Is it okay to dye my hair if I am 13 years old?
    Community Answer
It all depends on your parents mostly. Dip-dyeing your hair is not as harmful as dyeing your scalp, so if your parents are okay with it, it can be a cool way to add a little color to your appearance.
  • Question
Should I dip dye my hair or not? I am worried that if I leave the bleach in for too long my ends will break!
    Community Answer
Bleaching hair can damage the ends if this is done incorrectly, but just follow the provided instructions depending on what you are using. Dip dyeing is better than dyeing all of your hair (including roots) because at least you can cut it off if you are not pleased with the end result. You do not have to bleach and dye all of your hair, so most of your hair stays healthy.
  • Question
Am I allowed dip dyed hair in high school?
    Community Answer
It depends on your school's dress code. Check with your student handbook to determine specific rules relating to hair color.
  • Question
    Is the bleach permanent?
    Community Answer
Yes and no. The parts that you've put the bleach on will always be bleached (because it removes the color), but the bleached strands can be cut as your hair grows out.
  • Question
How would I do the bleaching if my hair is already really blonde?
    Community Answer
You don't have to bleach your hair if it's blonde, it might be a little darker than it shows on bleached hair, but it will still turn out.
  • Question
I have black hair, and I want to use a crazy pastel color on my hair. What do you think will look nice?
    Community Answer
Powder blue, baby pink, soft purple, or even mint would look great (but any shade you want would look just as good)! A buttery yellow might look pretty, too, and will help you avoid a "bee color scheme" typically associated with black and yellow.
  • Question
Can I dye my hair after using relaxer?
    Community Answer
Yes, you can, but the chances of your hair breaking are high because you've already used a chemical product on your hair. So, preferably, don't do it.
  • Question
Can I bring back the original colour of my hair after bleaching it?
    Community Answer
No, you can't. You see, if you bleach your hair, you remove the pigment in it. You can't bring these pigments back.
  • Question
How long will dip dyed hair last? Does the original color come back at some point?
    Community Answer
Semi permanent dyes will last roughly 20 to 30 weeks but the temporary dyes will last 6 to 8 weeks. Eventually, it will come out, and your hair will be back to its original state.
  • Question
So the color comes out. But is the bleach permanent or does that go away too?
    Community Answer
Bleach does not go away. After you bleach your hair it will not go back to its normal color until your roots grow out.
  • Question
What if I don't bleach my hair before the dyeing process?
    Community Answer
If you don't bleach your hair beforehand, the color will not be as bright, it will look more subtle, or it may not appear at all if your hair is dark. If your hair is already blond, you don't have to bleach it.
  • Question
What colors go well with dark blonde?
    Community Answer
Pink is very popular with blondes, as it suits the lighter tones. However it may be best if you bleach your hair first, as dark blonde may not turn out well, and the color after adding the dye wouldn't be visible.
  • Question
Should I straighten my hair with a pressing or flat iron immediately after?
    Community Answer
You can, but it isn't necessary. In fact, avoiding hot tools is healthiest for your hair and will help the dye last longer.
  • Question
Is it possible that my hair might turn out a different colour after dyeing, like say if I want blonde tips and it turns out orange?
    Community Answer
Yes, it is possible, and it does happen. The good news is that if you follow the directions carefully, take good care of your hair before and after the dying process (so it doesn't gradually become brassy or dull), and you test a little bit first if the directions allow, the dye should work out. Name brand box dyes should be more accurate to the shade on the box than cheap, unheard of brands.
  • Question
What dip dye color will go best with dark brown hair?
    Community Answer
Usually a blue or purple looks good on a dark brown haired person, but it's up to you. The darker the color, the paler it makes your skin look. Pink is popular with blondes because it matches the lighter tones.
  • Question
How do I dye my hair if I have dark hair and am dyeing the ends a darker color?
    Community Answer
You can use bleach to lighten the color of the section you want to dye, and then the color will show up better.
  • Question
If I bleach my hair then put the color, when it goes away will my hair be brown or blonde because I bleached them?
    Community Answer
If your hair is naturally brown, then as it grows out, it will stay brown, with the dyed/bleached ends remaining the color they are until you cut it. Bleach only affects the parts of your hair you've actually put it on, and no more.
  • Question
What color of dye would be best on black hair without bleaching it?
    Community Answer
It is almost impossible to dye black hair visibly without bleaching. Try a one-step red hair dye for dark hair and see if that works. Otherwise, you could use a spray-on or chalk hair coloring if you want.
  • Question
How long does your hair need to be to dip dye it?
    Community Answer
    It can be any length.
  • Question
Can I swim in the pool if I dip dye my hair?
    Community Answer
Technically yes, but be aware that the color will probably fade and make the water colored.
  • Question
If I have dirty blonde hair, will it still look nice if I dye the hair a lighter blonde?
    Community Answer
It might look good, but so might an ombré to brown.
  • Question
I got my hair done in a salon where she bleached my hair and then dyed it pink. The pink is now fading away and I want to color it blue once the pink fades away entirely. Should I bleach my hair again? Or just apply the dye by myself at home?
    Community Answer
Because your hair is already bleached, you do not need to bleach it again. Simply apply the blue dye over the bleached sections once the pink has faded.
  • Question
    Should I dye my hair?
    Community Answer
If you want to, go for it.
  • Question
Can dying the tips damage my hair or result in greys?
    Community Answer
Bleaching your hair can result in some damage but it won't result in grey hairs. Your hair might become more fine and brittle, but doing only the tips of your hair won't be too big a deal. If you do a coconut oil treatment the night before, you shouldn't worry too much about damage.
