    Expert Answer
If you're wanting a color that pops, bleach the ends of your hair first. If you're wanting what I call a "fantasy color," like teal or a pink, make sure you got all of the color out of the hair. Once you get most of the pigment out of your hair and get it past a yellow stage, you can essentially apply any fantasy color to it. Leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse with cool water.
  • Question
What color would work on brunette hair the best?
    Community Answer
I think that reds, blues, and greens look better on brown hair, but that's just my opinion. I have darkish brown hair, and I have found that it turns out really well when I dye it those colors.
  • Question
Does hair have to be wet or dry when applying jello mixture?
    Community Answer
It's best to dye your hair with jello the same way with commercial hair dye. If the commercial product requires you to have wet hair, then do the same for this method.
  • Question
    Is the shower cap needed?
    Community Answer
Yes, the shower cap is needed becuase it traps the heat and make it dry better.
  • Question
If I have red Jello, and light brown hair, how long do I leave the dye in?
    Community Answer
I'd say about an hour. You're not going to dye the hair, just tint it. It'll still look great, but if that's not what you're going for, then I suggest you check out Arctic Fox dyes.
  • Question
What color works best for blond hair? I want to do blue; will that work well, or will it be green?
    Community Answer
It will definitely turn green. Try red or pink at the end.
  • Question
Does the color run? Will it stain a hat? We have a baseball team that wants to dye their hair.
    Angie
    Community Answer
The color won't run if you rinse it out until the water runs clear off your hair.
  • Question
Why doesn't it work on everyone's hair?
    Community Answer
I'll bet that you have either thick, curly, or black hair. If your hair is thick and curly, the Jell-O doesn't do as well with that texture. If your hair is black, you might be more successful with brightly colored Jell-O.
  • Question
Does it work with black curly hair? I want the ombre style.
    Community Answer
Unfortunately, like most dyes, it doesn't work with dark hair unless you bleach your hair first.
  • Question
Could I replace the shower cap with aluminum foil if I want to dye all of my hair?
    Belle K.
    Top Answerer
The aluminum foil would probably not hold it in as well. A shower cap can hold all of your hair and would work best for this.
  • Question
Is this for the pudding Jello, or the gelatin dessert?
    Belle K.
    Top Answerer
The Jello in the article is a gelatin. The pudding would not work for dyeing your hair.
