How Chicago is pronounced depends largely on the neighborhood. From the far northside, I say "Chicawgo." The other neighborhoods lean more toward "Chicahgo." Remember that "ch" is always pronounced "sh."

Why are Chicagoans in so much denial, that they think they have no accent? And the Chicagoans I listen to have a very strong accent.

Probably because they've lived in Chicago for most or all of their lives, and aren't actually aware of the accent. It happens in most other places in the whole world, too. Your own accent is "the right one" according to you because it's all you've ever known!
