If you're not sure what you want to do, don't just go to a job board and start surfing. When you do that, it's easy to get overwhelmed and begin thinking that there's nothing that you can do. Instead, really get to know yourself—think about what you're good at and what you're passionate about, then brainstorm different careers that might be a good fit. Then, you can look for positions on job boards.

It can be very tempting to choose a career based on what your ego wants, like a job that offers more money, status, or power. However, if that path isn't what you really want, then it won't be satisfying for long. Instead, choose a job that aligns with your power, passion, purpose, or other things that are meaningful to you.

Take some time to think about what kind of work you want to do on a daily basis and will find fulfilling. It can be hard, but try not to get pulled off your path by other people's opinions about what you should or shouldn't do, even if it's someone you really respect. People might have great advice for you, but they might not fully understand that what you want may be different from what they want.
