Let’s say you’re gorgeous, you have an amazing lifestyle, you have good style, and you know how to do makeup—you do all of these different posts, and you see that your makeup posts go viral and get a lot of likes, but not so much your other posts. You need to be honest with yourself and say OK, I’m not a fashion influencer, I’m a beauty influencer, and start focusing on that. It takes a lot of introspection to find out what your niche is. If you’re building your own brand, you have to be very honest about what it is, and that could be something vastly different from what you thought it was at first.

A long time. A really long time. A lot of people think that influencers just kind of grow overnight, but that's absolutely false. It takes a lot of effort and time to convince people of your idea. If you upload a post with for example 1000 followers, and you post a picture of whatever and you barely get likes then Instagram will know you have fake followers, and they usually remove them. If you ask to be verified with lots of fake followers they will most likely not give you the verified badge.
