Prep your skin before you shave to help prevent razor burn. Wash your face thoroughly. Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells. Heat your skin by taking a hot shower or placing a hot cloth on your face to soften the hair and open your pores. Then, shave with the grain of your hair to prevent red bumps and irritation. Apply a witch hazel astringent after you shave, then splash your face with cold water to close the pores. Avoid touching your face as much as possible to prevent transferring bacteria and oils to your skin.

    Community Answer
Assure you use a clean, sharp, razor, and shave in the direction of hair growth. Once shaven, those hair follicles are open. Clean the area well and apply a gentle lotion or aloe gel.
  • Question
Can After-Sun be used to reduce bumps?
    Community Answer
If it is made of aloe vera gel, you can use it to soothe the area. If it is really bad, try freezing some in an ice cube tray and put it on. It should help a lot with redness.
  • Question
What if my rash is somewhere where it cannot breathe, like between my thighs, and whenever I walk, my legs rub against each other?
    Community Answer
You can apply Vaseline or roll-on deodorant between your thighs to stop them from chaffing. This may be what is causing your rash in the first place, so if I were you I'd just start doing this regularly.
  • Question
If i use a men's razor and shaving cream to shave my pubic area, will that case razor burn, and how do I make sure I don't have stubble?
    Community Answer
If you use a men's razor, make sure that it is sterile and clean. Additionally, make sure that the shaving cream that you purchased is non-fragrant and doesn't have any harsh chemicals. If the hair is longer, make sure to trim the hair with sterile, clean scissors. If you want to prevent stubble, make sure you shave in the direction that the hair is growing. Obviously, as the hair grows back, there will be stubble. After you are done, make sure to moisturize it with coconut lotion or any type of non-fragrant lotion.
  • Question
What should I do if my razor burn will not go away?
    Community Answer
You could use a warm face towel to help relieve some of it. Also, you can put on antiseptic creams to help reduce the razor burn.
  • Question
What is the best way of getting rid of razor burns on my mustache area?
    Community Answer
Try using aloe vera or another soothing gel. You also want to make sure to keep it clean to prevent infection.
  • Question
I use shampoo for shaving cream but I still have it. And it is really embarrassing. What is the quickest way to get rid of it?
    Community Answer
You should not use shampoo for shaving cream because it is made to wash your hair, not lather up your skin for a smooth shave. It would be much better to use shaving cream or soap or, in extreme cases, conditioner but not shampoo.
  • Question
Which lotions for women should I use?
    Community Answer
You should use aloe vera gel. It is soothing and all natural. It is better than most lotions on the market.
  • Question
Why not minimize razor burn by applying a lotion/oil to the skin before applying shaving cream and the razor? Wouldn't this reduce the razor burn by reducing friction on the skin?
    Community Answer
Applying shave cream or gel before shaving can reduce razor burn. If you apply an oil before the cream, you will have a higher chance of missing areas. Applying a moisturizer such as coconut oil or a thick cream can also help.
