  • Question
What if my dragon doesn't want a bath?
    Community Answer
It's recommended that you bathe your dragon every four to eight days, but if you'd rather not, a bath should only be necessary around the time it starts shedding.
  • Question
I take a shower when the water is all the way hot and I'm scared it will be too hot. What should I do?
    Community Answer
That would be too hot; you'll have to either take a cooler shower or exclude your beardie from your shower.
  • Question
How can I check the temperature of the water without a thermometer?
    Community Answer
Dip your elbow into the water. If the water is too hot or cold for your skin, then it's too hot or cold for your dragon.
  • Question
What do I do if I flicked water in its face but he still doesn't drink?
    LizardLover33
    Community Answer
It is not very nice to flick water in a beardie's face. Some bearded dragons don't drink when people are watching them. Check the levels of his water dish at different points of the day to see if he is still drinking.
  • Question
What do I do if my dragon does not like to be held?
    Community Answer
It will take a while for him to get used to you; just pet his head gently and scoop him up underneath his belly. If he tries to bite you, it shouldn't hurt, at least not if he's a juvenile. Give him no choice but to be held and reward him with snuggles or treats.
  • Question
What can I do if I only have chlorinated water?
    Community Answer
There is a reptile dechlorinator called Reptisafe. I use it for my reptile's drinking and bathing water. You can also wait for the chlorine to dissipate and then use a water heater that you would use in a fish tank to heat the water.
  • Question
What does it mean when my dragon shakes sideways when it sees the cricket container?
    Community Answer
He sees the food and is waiting to strike. Try not to keep the crickets near him for too long or he may be stressed from not being able to eat the crickets.
  • Question
How do I keep my bearded dragon from thinking my fingers are food?
    LizardLover33
    Community Answer
Bearded dragons' sight is not very good, so when you have food on your hand, move it around so he/she can tell where the food is.
  • Question
I don't have filtered water. Is that bad for my lizards to drink?
    Community Answer
It's not very bad but it's also not very good either. Unfiltered water can harm your dragon's insides, so it's probably best to use bottled water or drinking water. You can find regular drinking water at grocery stores.
  • Question
What do I do if it is mean and doesn't let me touch it?
    LizardLover33
    Community Answer
Gradually get the lizard used to you by getting it to lie on your chest, make him a hot water bottle to sleep on, and feed him treats such as wax worms.
  • Question
Is it okay if my bearded dragon's head goes in the water for a second?
    Community Answer
Yes, it is okay, but you should try to avoid it happening. If it only happens once or twice, it will probably be fine, but if it happens frequently, your dragon might develop an infection in its ears, nose, or eyes.
  • Question
My beardie always poops in the bath. Is this a sign he does not like it?
    Community Answer
No, I think it means that he is comfortable. Perhaps you are feeding him to close to bath time.
  • Question
What should I put underneath my bearded dragon's enclosure?
    Community Answer
A regular table would be just fine. You could even use a low table if you don't have any other pets who could pose a risk to your dragon.
  • Question
We have been giving our bearded dragon tap water. Is it OK if she has a bath in it?
    Community Answer
She shouldn't be drinking tap water. Use bottled/filtered water instead. You can put her in tap-water baths, but make sure she does not lick it.
  • Question
I want to bath my bearded dragon but I don't have a thermometer how do I check the temperature of the water. What should I do?
    Birds101
    Community Answer

  • Question
    Can bearded dragons take showers?
    Community Answer

  • Question
Is a bearded dragon a good pet for a kid that goes to school and their parents aren't home for about 8 to 9 hours?
    Community Answer
Not necessarily. They don't need lots of attention but do need to be watched. If the child is capable of managing the bearded dragon when he/she is home, then maybe you should consider it. But if the whole family is gone for the vast majority of the day, maybe it's time to pick another similar pet - like a turtle!
  • Question
My dragons keep jumping out of the water, what do I do?
    Community Answer
If the dragon tries to jump out of the water, either lower the water level or put a piece of cloth or something down on the bottom of the tub to help them get a grip.

    Community Answer
You can if the fish tank isn't too small and your dragon can comfortably fit and swim around in it. If it's smaller than the dragon and it will only fit if its tail is bent, it's way too small. Make sure to clean it well after using it.
  • Question
What if my beard doesn't like vegetables?
    Community Answer
Your pet should be eating very few vegetables anyway, so feed him or her bugs from your local pet shop instead.
  • Question
What if my bearded dragon sleeps a lot?
    Community Answer
It is very common for your bearded dragon to brumate during the late fall through the winter months. If brumation is beginning, your bearded dragon can sleep for days or even weeks at a time and it's appetite may drastically slow down or even stop.
  • Question
How high does the water have to be in a water bowl?
    Community Answer
It would depend on the age of your dragon. If you have a baby, then the bowl should have a little less than an inch of water. For a juvenile, it should have about an inch of water. Just make sure the bowl doesn't contain enough water to drown your dragon.
  • Question
How often should I use calcium powder when feeding?
    Community Answer
I like to dust the crickets I feed my beardie during every other meal. I also gut-load the crickets with a gel food that gives them that added boost of nutrients and minerals that benefit our beardies (and it is also a fail-safe if I forget to dust the crickets). It also depends on the age; babies need it pretty much daily, juveniles need it every other to every three days, and adults can get away with 5 to 6 days with nutrient gut-loaded insects.
