Are maps available for purchase?

No, because caches change all the time. Some are taken down, others are put up or moved, so there are no physical maps; it would be impossible to constantly keep them up to date. However, on the geocaching website there is an updated map you can always use to find any geocache. You do need to make an account first, though. If you really have a thing for physical maps, you could print it, I suppose.

I how do I set up a cache?

You set up a cache by getting a waterproof, lock tight container. Get a piece of paper to be the logbook, put some SWAG (Stuff We All Get or trading items) into the container and seal it. Find a location that is 528 feet away from other caches and place it. Register the name and coordinates on geocaching.co m and you're done!
