Look for jewelry with matte finishes instead of shiny coatings. Matte finishes and earrings made with dull coatings don't draw much attention to themselves so people likely won't notice them.
  • Question
I have 5 piercings in each ear, but soon I'll be joining military basic training. I cannot take them out, the ones on cartilage are recent. What should I do to cover them up?
    Jazmyn Lowen
    Community Answer
You could get a clear plastic retainer, as small as possible. They are quite cheap and not visible from a distance. They can also be used in situations such as schools with strict piercing rules.
  • Question
I want to get snakebites, but my school doesn't allow it. I know I can get clear piercings, but can I get clear ones the first time I pierce them?
    Community Answer
No. All good piercing parlors will put in titanium or stainless steel for the beginning piercing because those will be less susceptible to infection, and mouth piercings have a tendency to get infected easily. I would wait until you have left the school you are at now to get them.
  • Question
What can I do to hide my cartilage piercing?
    Zno10
    Community Answer
Ask your piercer to put in a clear stud, or wear a beanie over it. Make sure to put on and take off the beanie very carefully to avoid getting the piercing caught. Your hair is not a safe option, because it can get caught in the piercing, and might even rip out the piercing if it's caught and you unknowingly tug it. A headscarf can also work.
  • Question
Is it safe to cover a cartilage piercing with a band aid a few days after getting it done?
    Briyana Spencer
    Community Answer
It may not be a good idea, because new piercings need air to help heal them.
  • Question
I'm getting my ears pierced tomorrow, and the day after that I have to go to school. I don't know why, but I don't like the idea of everybody knowing I just got pierced ears. What do I do?
    Community Answer
It's really not a big deal. You probably just don't want the extra attention, and that's understandable. Most likely people will just say, "Oh, you got your ears pierced? How was it?" or something like that. You could try to cover your ears with your hair, but that's about your only option.

A hoodie or a clear earring (usually called a retainer) can help hide a piercing you don't want seen.
  • Question
What can I do if I need to cover a lot of ear piercings?

If they aren't new, take them out, dab some Vaseline on the holes, just enough to sort of "fill" the holes a little, then apply concealer. If they are new, cover them with your hair and/or a hat.

  • Question
I have a soccer game and when I take out my earrings my left back of my ear starts to bleed. What should I do?
    Community Answer
If you've had the piercings for over a yea r(they aren't new) and they are doing this, then go see a doctor, as something is up. But if they are new, you need to leave them in because your ear is still healing (tell your coach they are new piercings and your ear is still healing). You may need to forgo earrings for sport, so keep that in mind.

  • Question
How can I hide my third holes with the wind blowing? I don't wanna seem suspicious either.

Wear a hood, scarf or a hat and let your hair cover the holes. The head covering should be secure enough that your hair won't blow around in the wood.
  • Question
My work has a no visible piercings policy, what should I do?

    Community Answer
If you got a nose piercing, you could get a 'skin tag' from your piercer. These are either clear or a shade of a skin color. Ear and facial piercings are not easy to hide and you could risk the holes closing up if you take them out. I suggest if you don't have piercings to get one where it is least noticeable, like your dermals. If you do have noticeable piercings, talk to your boss about the situation.
  • Question
My grandchildren were told to remove small pierced studs or go home. They only had them done yesterday so can’t remove them. It’s not normal lessons because of covid, just drawing, etc. They were isolated.
    Community Answer
Unfortunately, if it is a rule, then it is to be done. Your grandchildren will understand because they can see no one wears them at school. You can allow them to wear their studs at home during non school hours. Once the piercing dries and sets, you don't have to worry it will close again. Make rules playful and expect them to understand, although with a bit whining. It can be work out between you and them.

Most sports require you to take them out. Use BandAids over the ear lobes, and for extra protection, a headband. I always used Nike Dri-Fit Tie headbands.

  • Question
I have my seconds and helix pierced, my mum doesn't know and she has to do my hair soon. How can I hide them without a retainer or plaster?
    Community Answer
You cannot possibly hide it while getting the hair cut. Instead of living in fear, try admitting it and facing the consequences. Your behavior, after she knows ,and how you wear your accessories will help her see if you are aware and sorry about breaking rules.
  • Question
I am very active, and ear retainers fall out easy. Is there any possible way to solve this problem?
    Community Answer
Consider allowing the piercing to rejoin a little overnight? If the hole is bigger than the accessory, it could be allowed to get smaller as you leave it without any ancestors for a few nights. When your accessory fits well, you can set it there without worries. Small hoops can also fit firmly if you want something that stays on.
  • Question
How do I hide a lobe piercing if I don’t have long hair?
    Community Answer
Wear a bandana or a hair band that covers your ears. You can try wearing some makeup to cover any redness with good quality chapstick or liquid foundation.
  • Question
Can I put concealer on the top of the piercing? Will it keep it hidden?
    Community Answer
Yes, it will be hidden. However, if the concealer affects your wounds, it might feel uncomfortable. Try it first for an hour and then make a choice. To remove it, try wetting a tissue and wiping it. Avoid splashing water in your ears because the makeup and the water will go inside and create a problem.
  • Question
I just got my cartilage pierced and I live at home with my parents, I cannot afford "retainers" so how else could I hide cartilage piercings from my parents?
    Community Answer
They are bound to know soon. A hairband or a bandana can make it too eye catchy instead. How about you display responsible behavior by and after admitting what you did? This way they'll be a little reassured that you won't get more piercings done.
  • Question
I am 53 years old. Can I get an ear piercing?
    Community Answer
Ask your doctor if you can. Sometimes the wound takes longer to heal when you're older. Depending upon your medical history, your physician will be able to give you the best guidance about it.
