The easiest way to do this is to add two or three drops of food coloring (depending on the amount of fondant) and "fold" it in. Wear gloves and use your hands to get this done. The fondant will start to soften due to your body heat, but that's easily managed with a small stint in the fridge before use. If you don't have gloves, do the same in a sandwich baggie.

It is simple - after you have got your buttercream, you add a pinch of black food coloring powder or you put two or three drops of a liquid food coloring into your buttercream. Then you mix it together for about a minute.

Add more color.

Add about 10 drops of yellow to your mixing dish, and add one drop of red. If it resembles orange, add more yellow. If it is too light, add more red. Continue until you reach the desired hue.

Get some clay and add the black food coloring you made in this recipe.

This does work with mine. I did add a little more red than any other colors.

Stores like Hobby Lobby carry edible paints in various colors. Also look on websites such as Amazon. You can also find edible spray paints in a variety of colors if you want to use that instead.

If you used chocolate paste, it would make the whipped cream brown, not black.
