  • Question
My daughters hair is soft, but not curly. Since it's short, I'd like to get it looking like sporting waves. What can I do?
    Community Answer
When you dry it, don't dry it all the way. Braid while the ends are still damp, and take it down in the morning - it should be wavy and pretty. Be careful when you brush it, you don't want to brush them all out.
  • Question
Are there any easier ways to get curly hair?
    Community Answer
Yes. You can braid the hair overnight, and in the morning you should have beautiful, beach wave hair.
  • Question
If l deep condition my hair with castor oil mixed with coconut oil and do not wash it out, can it have a negative effect on my hair?
    Community Answer
It depends on what you consider negative. It will most likely smooth your hair out and make it really heavy! But remember, if you leave it in too long it will eventually become a gross mess, so don't leave it in overnight or anything.
  • Question
How often should I wash my curly hair?
    Community Answer
It depends on how oily your hair is, but about twice a week should be sufficient.

It depends on how short it is. If you have some length then you can use curl enhancing products or a curling sponge. You can also try a twist out or bantu knots.
  • Question
How many times a week should a black man moisturize his hair?

Do you have to have textured hair to use flexi rods?

  • Question
I have very poofy hair that can curl, but I choose to brush it out, and because of that it is damaged now. What kind of hair routine should I follow? Also, how should I dry my hair?
    Community Answer
First, make sure you know your hair type (3c, 4a, 4b, 4c). You sound like you're 4b-4c. Your hair is very dry and prone to breakage, so the key is moisturizing your hair by deep conditioning every wash and using a good moisturizer and sealant. Also, if you find yourself brushing your hair a lot, it's a great idea to wear a protective style like Bantu knots every once in a while, since they keep your hair up for two weeks at a time. To dry your hair, let it air-dry if you can, or if you have to, diffuse it.
  • Question

  • Question
What can I use as a substitute for flex rods?
    Community Answer
Curlers should do. You can find them at a beauty shop. But you have to use it when your hair is wet, so use a blow dryer to dry it.
  • Question
How do I tell what type of hair I have?

  • Question
Won't gel make my hair hard? Are there any alternatives? I want my curls to be soft but a little enhanced. Is that possible?
    Community Answer
If you scrunch your curls and brush it with a wide-toothed comb before the gel dries, it won't get hard. If you want to avoid gel you can use hair mousse, it adds extra volume, hold and shine.

  • Question
I have naturally curly hair, and I don't like it. I want it to be wavy, curly hair like the girls on TikTok. I'm African-American and my hair always shrinks. It is also very thick. What can I do?
    Community Answer
Straighten your hair and then either use a curling iron to get loose waves or use a wave iron. You could also wash your hair, add some hair oil to it (that's optional but will help considerably), tightly French braid your hair and sleep with it that way, and then blow dry the braid before undoing it in the morning. You can do this every night if you want. Just wet your hair (but not your scalp) on nights that you don't wash it. This will provide very pretty waves, on which you can use a texturing spray for more texture and volume if you'd like.
