    Expert Answer
Do not focus on following trends. It's important to think about what you personally like and will feel good, since it's your house and your bedroom. Redecorating is all about what works for your space and what it's worth there. This is especially important when painting walls, since color impacts us on so many levels and it shouldn't be a decision that's taken lightly.

  • Question
I don't want to be girly, and my room is too girly! how do I reverse it?

    Community Answer
Try painting the walls white if they not already white, or paint them a mature color for example: gray, navy or any other color that you like. If you can, get permission to change your furniture if it's girly, you can get furniture on a budget at a good yard sale. If you have any girly accessories in your room remove them and replace it with something else, for example replace girly throw pillows with teenage throw pillows which are not girly and more mature.

Places like JoAnn Fabrics often have sales on fabrics and pre-formed bows (small to large and oversized). You could buy fabric and drape it down the sides of the bookshelf, and across the top. You would need to measure the width on one side [x3 - two for sides and one across the top] and the length [sides x2 and top]. You could accent with some small bows. Use thumbtacks, or you could simply fold the fabric and place a few heavier items at the top, and for the sides tuck the excess fabric neatly behind the bookshelf against the wall. Check for an electrical outlet before using this method! Note that fabric is folded in half when sold; tell the clerk if you intend to use it folded.
  • Question
How can you be girly when you have a little sister who is toxic?

  • Question
My room is too kiddish and I have a budget, so how can I make it better?
    Community Answer
Shop thrift stores. Look for a nice corkboard, pillows and signs. Go exploring around your house. Peek into the basement, your parents' closet, or wherever all your junk is stored. To make your room look older, add some more essential things to your room -- a rug, nice posters, a mirror, and some sort of cute lighting.
  • Question

If you have space, you could add a rug and maybe a few fake plants. Also, don't be shy about hanging things on the walls. Cute pictures on fairy lights are beautiful.
