    Expert Answer
Do a ponytail first and use bobby pins to secure it. Since you probably have longer and shorter layers, start with the longer ones. Twist them and put them around the ponytail, securing them with bobby pins all around. Then, work with the smaller layers, fitting them wherever they need to fit in. It's simpler than it seems, believe me.

You do your bun as normal, but then you use hair gel to slick back your bangs and then pin them.
  • Question
Why doesn't my hair work when it is sleek?
    Community Answer
Sleek hair can be harder to style since it's more likely to slide out of place. You can try teasing it.
  • Question
How do I make a bun for short hair if I don't have hairspray or pins?
    Community Answer
Just use hair elastics instead, this is what I do and it works fine. You could also ask a friend or family member if they have any pins you can borrow.
  • Question

As with straight hair, take a curling iron and separate your hair into 4-5 sections. Then curl each section individually.

Instead of splitting the ponytail into two pieces, try splitting it into several more. It depends on how thick your hair is; experiment and see what works best for you.

  • Question
What do I do if hair is coming out of my bun when I have short hair?

You could put half of your hair into a small cute bun, or you could have the bun slightly lower and use bobby pins and hairspray for support.
  • Question
What do I do if some of the hairs are slipping out of the hairspray?
    Community Answer
Try pin it down with bobby pins or use hair gel or even elastics to hold those strand of hair down. If that doesn't work, then the hairspray definitely isn't strong enough, so consider getting a new one.
  • Question
What if my hair length is uneven?
    Community Answer
If there are some hairs sticking out because your hair is uneven, try either making the bun lower so you can get the hairs into the bun or bobby pin any lose hairs back and use some hairspray on them.
  • Question
How do I make a man bun if my hair is short?
    Community Answer
Wait until it grows long enough to put it in the ponytail. This can take many months but at some stage you'll be able to pull enough hair back to start making the bun.
  • Question
My hair is layered, short and hard to handle. What can I do?
    Community Answer
If you have hair pins, you can use those to pin separate layers. However, it may just be too hard since you have layers, which prevent enough hair from being grabbed for forming the bun. In which case, you'll need to wait till your hair grows longer.
