What time is best to see Jupiter?
    Mattisky
    Community Answer
It depends on your location and where Jupiter is right now. There are a lot of apps out there that can help you to prepare your observations (for Android: Star Walk, for PC/Mac/Linux: Stellarium). You can enter your location and see where the the planets are from your point of view.
  • Question
How can I be assured that it is the planet?

Stars appear as points, no matter how large you magnify them. For planets, and especially Jupiter because of its size, you'll see that you can actually magnify it to a circle.
  • Question
Why can't I see Jupiter at night?
    Community Answer
Jupiter can be seen by the naked eye only on cloudless nights, away from light pollution. It can be sometimes mistaken for a star.

It's the largest planet in the solar system, a light-colored sphere marked with prominent horizontal stripes of various shades of brown. It features a very large, reddish spot (a storm) just below its equator. It also has four rings so faint that you could elect not to draw them at all if you prefer.
