Make sure you follow the steps EXACTLY. You have to be at a website other than instagram.com when you turn on developer tools. If you're at the Instagram website when you do that, you won't see the +.

What do I do if the "bstfolder" directory doesn't appear as an option when I open ES file explorer in Bluestacks? Is there another way to access my picture files on my Mac?

I had the same problem - eventually I found them. On my Mac you get to the "bstfolder" folder by opening File Explorer as above, and looking in the "Windows" folder. Annoyingly I couldn't see any of the images I wanted to upload in the "bstfolder" folder - but there was another folder under "Windows" called "Pictures" (File Explorer > Windows > Pictures) which had the images I needed.

If you're talking about apps on your phone giving you viruses, yes it is possible, however there aren't many apps that you'd download that don't come from a trusted developer and this issue mainly affects people who pirate apps coming from untrusted sources. If you are talking on a simulated phone, same goes, but I don't think that your computer would be compromised and you could delete the virtual device on the simulator without much if any harm done.

Well, there is another way to upload a picture from Dropbox to Instagram, but it will take slightly longer. First, use Dropbox and open the picture you want to upload on IG. There should be an option to download it to your device. After downloading, you can send it through the Instagram app like normal.
