    This could be a sign that you're too tense, or it may be that you are too focused on your throat while you're singing. It may also be that you're not warming up properly ahead of time. Remember, you have to warm the whole body up before you start singing.

If your shoulders rise, you're breathing from your chest instead of your diaphragm, which is a muscle that sits right at the base of your lungs. Breathe in and see if you can expand your rib cage outwards without moving your shoulders or chest.
