    Expert Answer
Just because your hair is short does not mean that it will be challenging to straighten it. However, you may not be able to move as quickly, otherwise you'll risk burning yourself.
  • Question

    Expert Answer
If your hair is still wavy after using the flat iron, your sections of hair may be too thick, and the temperature of the iron may be too low. Try separating your hair into 1/2 inch sections.
  • Question
What if I have fluffy hair?
    Community Answer
You can set the flat iron temperature higher, and go over your hair slowly, two or three times if needed. Parting your hair into smaller sections can be helpful.
  • Question
What if my hair isn't cut into layers?
    Community Answer
Even if your hair isn't cut into layers, you can still part it into smaller sections, which are referred to here, as "layers."
  • Question
Will this work if I don't have any heat protectant?
    Community Answer
It will work, but your hair will get damaged if you keep straightening it without any protectant.
  • Question
Is it necessary for my hair to be wet at the time of straightening?
    Community Answer
No. Your hair actually needs to be dry, otherwise it won't straighten properly and hold the heat.
  • Question
Is it bad for hair to straighten it all the time?
    Community Answer
Yes! Heat kills your hair. It will damage the ends especially (since they're not constantly growing) and will cause them to split. Occasional heat is all right, but don't go straightening your hair every day.
  • Question
What if my hair ends up frizzy?
    Community Answer
Use some heat protection spray with nourishing oils before straightening your hair, and be sure to use a lower temperature. Also, make sure that you are straightening dry (not wet) hair. If your hair is still frizzy afterwards, apply some smoothing oil to your hair, such as Argan or coconut.
  • Question
What do I do if my hair won't go straight?
    Community Answer
You may want to get a better hair straightener or make the temperature higher.
  • Question
How do I keep it straight for the rest of the day?
    Community Answer
Most of the time it only becomes curly/frizzy if you get it wet or you become sweaty. Just avoid doing those things and you should be fine.
  • Question
I did that four times and my hair is still puffy, what do I do?
    Community Answer
Spritz it, brush it, and straighten it again. Remember -- brush for dry hair and comb for wet. Try to only straighten it when it's dry, and maybe use a higher heat setting, if you can.
  • Question
How long will it take me to straighten thick, poofy hair?
    Community Answer
A minimum of 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Question
My hair is very curly. Is there a technique to straighten it quickly?
    Community Answer
Put your hair in a ponytail, then straighten each piece. Take it out and straighten the roots.
  • Question
If I don't have a heat protector, is there anything else I can use?
    Community Answer
In a spray bottle, mix 1tsp of coconut oil, 1 Tbs of sweet almond oil, 2 tsp of conditioner, 1 cup of water and 5 drops of essential oil, then spray it in your hair.
  • Question
What if don't have a flat iron?
    Community Answer
If you don't have a flat iron, just use a comb and a blow dryer to straighten your hair.
  • Question
How high should I have the iron on?
    Community Answer
That depends on your preference, and how curly your hair is. You will need the iron on a higher heat setting if you do not have straight hair.
  • Question
How do I know if I have damaged my hair?
    Community Answer
Usually damaged hair will have split ends and it will be very dry at the ends/bottom. Just always use heat protection before using any heat on your hair.
  • Question
Will it look okay if I just go through my curly hair once?
    Community Answer
That's up to you. If you're satisfied that it's straight enough, then fine. Unless you're hair is really thin, though, it will likely need a second or third pass with the iron.
  • Question
What do I do if my hair is really long and quite frizzy?
    Community Answer
Just use a higher temperature, and if needed, run the iron through the sections more times.
  • Question
What can I use instead of hair straightening serum?
    Community Answer
You can use hairspray to fix up your hair quickly before you iron it, but make sure your hair is not wet.
  • Question
What should I do if I can't find my straightener?
    Community Answer
You can always try straightening your hair without it. Check out wikiHow's article on straightening your hair without heat for more information.
  • Question
Is it okay to straighten my hair almost every week?
    Community Answer
If you mean just once a week, that shouldn't cause too much damage, but you ought to use a heat-protectant spray just to be on the safe side.
  • Question
I have thick, curly, long hair and would love to straighten it quickly. How should I start?
    Community Answer
In order to do this, try putting your hair into a ponytail, then straighten the ponytail. Then, take the ponytail out, and straighten everything on top of your head and any flaws left.
  • Question
I have frizzy hair after straightening. Is Garnier Fructis okay to use?
    Community Answer
Maybe. A natural oil serum made from argan or tea tree or even coconut oil would be better.
  • Question
I blow dry then straighten my curly hair so after I blow dry do I use my heat protect spray that I have or before I blow dry my hair?
    Misty Sandlin
    Community Answer
You can use your spray both before blow drying your hair and again before straightening it. Personally I've never found a product that keep my hair from getting frizzy after blow drying, so I usually wash my hair at night then straighten in the morning after it's dried overnight. But yes, I'd recommend using your heat protecting spray before both drying and straightening, especially before the straightening as your hair is coming into direct contact with the heat source.
