If the USB device has been verified with another computer system, it's possible that the port on the machine itself is damaged. Try multiple ports, if they're available. If you have a newer Apple notebook model, they only have USB C ports, so you need an adapter if your device has a standard USB connector. If you're using an adapter, check to ensure it's not damaged.

Try unplugging and replugging the device to the computer. If that does not work try using a different USB port on the computer. If you have many devices connected to the computer, try unplugging some of those not in use, as this may affect the power draw.
