    Expert Answer
Being prepared is key when giving a speech. Practice giving the speech to the mirror or in front of a friend so that you're forced to do it before you actually give the speech.

Search online for jokes to add, ask friends, and try your best. Once you think that you have a good enough speech, practice it in front of people and ask them for their input/suggestions.

After I've written one, how do I tell if it's any good?

Try rehearsing your speech in front of a friend or family member. Notice their body language and reaction during your speech, and make note of whether it was what you expected. After you rehearse, ask your friend or family member for feedback on your speech.
