Thank them on the first line. Be very specific about what you're thanking them for, like "Thank you for taking the extra time to work with me on my algebra homework after class." Then, let them know how their kindness helped you. For example, you could write, "Now I know that when I take the SATs, I'll do much better on the math section." Finish with a nice sign-off, like "Wishing you well" or "Warm regards," followed by your signature.

The first thing you should start off with is the person's name, like "Dear Sally, thank you so much for…." Then, include specifics, like "Thank you so much for attending the funeral and sending me flowers." Try to be very specific. If they got you a gift, let them know how you plan on using it. If the gift is in the deceased's honor, you can write, "I know they would have appreciated this because..." Thank them again (e.g. "I appreciate your kindness, your thoughtfulness, and you taking the time to do this for me") and then let them know you look forward to speaking with them soon.

You can get a format from any English teacher, or search online, if it helps. First, thank that person for giving you the job. Then, you can let him know what the job meant to you, if it taught you anything or any other way it helped you. Finally, wish them luck, and cordially sign your letter.
  • Question
How do I thank my grandad for giving me a car?

Talk to him in person and let him know that you truly appreciate what he has done for you. Say it from the heart. It is always better to thank someone in person for something like a car.
  • Question
Where do I add the cc if I am copying someone on a letter?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
E-mail servers always have a cc field, so use that. In handwritten letters or letters sent through snail mail, the cc goes under the to field. So the header has date and place, your address and contact details as well as the address and contact details of the main recipient. Under that main recipient, write "cc: [Name]". The name is enough. You'll have to print the letter as many times as there are recipients, and simply write the actual address for the people in cc on their respective envelopes.
  • Question
If I run out of room on the bottom, do I finish the note above it or on the back of the note card?

  • Question
How do I write a thank you letter for being forgiven for something?
    lisa ward
    Community Answer
Keep it short and sweet. Acknowledge the incident and ask to move on and put it behind you.
  • Question
Do I need to write an individual note when multiple people gave one gift?
    Community Answer
It depends. If they're all from one household, workplace, or other physical location where they'd read the note together, you can just give them one letter and mention them all in there. However, if the individuals you want to thank are all from different locations, that probably wouldn't be doable.
  • Question
How would I phrase a thank you letter for a monetary gift?
    Community Answer
It's best to thank the giver for the generous gift and not mention the amount. Consider adding what you'll be using the money for. For example: Thank you for your generous gift! I will finally be able to replace the broken lamp in my room/buy the dress I always wanted/take my kid to Disneyland/etc.
  • Question

Be professional. Chances are, if there was an interview involved, it was a big deal to some extent. Use proper punctuation and capitalization, and be sincere in your thanks.
  • Question
How do I reply to a letter I received congratulating me on my new position and asking for continuous support and cooperation?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
These letters do not usually require a reply. It quickly becomes nonsensical: Congratulations! Thank you! Thank you for thanking me for congratulating you! Thank you for thanking me for thanking you ... My rule of thumb is: if they do not ask me a direct question that needs my immediate response, I don't reply. Alternatively, call them on the phone or send a little thank you text message.
  • Question
Where do I send a thank you letter for nurses and doctors in an OB department of a hospital?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Just look up the street address of the hospital on their website. Your letter will go to the general reception staff, so make sure to include as much information as you can for them to give your letter to the intended recipient. Include their names, the department they work at, perhaps even the floor or office number. If needed, you can call the hospital and ask for this information.

  • Question
What would happen if I write my loved one an honest thank you letter?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
The loved one would feel validated. Honesty is a rare and precious gem. If you show you can be honest to someone, that person will feel that you trust with your actual feelings, which is always a good thing to do. It does depend on what you want to thank the person for. For loving you, that's a bit awkward. Also, if you're in love, you're kind of underselling this. If you're going to write to your loved one, write a love letter, not a thank-you letter. You can always thank the person in your love letter as well.
  • Question
It is okay to write my family an honest thank-you letter?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Sure, why not. It seems a bit silly if you live in the same house, though; you can just tell them how you feel. Don't mention that it's an honest letter - people will assume it's honest. If you don't live with them, there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be OK to write them a letter.
  • Question
What will happen if I write down my honest opinion about the gifts in the letter to my family?
    Tom De Backer
    Top Answerer
Billy Joel is right: honesty is indeed a lonely word. If your honest opinion coincides with the socially-acceptable thing to write--"Thank you for the gifts, I truly loved them"--then you can be honest all you like. But if you hated them and are going to be honest about it, then expect some angry replies. There is no need to be honest about this; either don't write, or be polite. Give the gifts to someone else; eventually they'll find a place in this world.
  • Question
Should I write about the contents of the gift?
    Community Answer
Yes because then they know you care about the gift rather than saying just "the gift," as if you had no care in the world for the gift.

  • Question
How do I write a thank you letter to someone for paying for my school fees?
    Community Answer
For something like paying school fees, make sure to write it sincerely. If you have an option to meet up with this person, do that. But if not, a letter will be wonderful as well: Dear _______, thank you so,very much for giving me the gift of education. It has been my dream/I have longed to go to college/this school forever. I owe you greatly. I will never forget what you did for me, and will take this gift with me through out my life. I am so thankful for the amazingly generous person that you are. I hope we can catch up soon. Thank you, your friend, _____________
