Can the container just be a jar? Also, do I have to empty all of the water when the the green shoot grows?
    Community Answer
If the container is big enough to let the garlic sit up and still hold water, it will work. When the green shoot grows, just wait a day and transfer it to the soil. The water can stay, as long as the garlic isn't left sitting in it for more than a day after sprouting.

      About This Article

      Article Summary X

To regrow garlic from a clove, take a clove from a garlic bulb but don’t remove the peel. Fill a container with a small amount of water and prop the clove up so that just the bottom is resting in the water. Let the garlic sit in the water for a few days until it starts to grow a green shoot, then transplant it into soil and cover everything except the shoot. Water the bulb twice a week so that the soil is damp to a depth of about 2 inches (5 cm). Once the shoot starts to wilt and turn yellow or brown, the garlic is ready to harvest and eat.
