Power Armor is a staple of any Fallout game. Whether you're scavenging 200 years after the war, or only a mere 20, Power Armor can be the difference between life and death. Fallout 76 Power Armor is similar to the Power Armor used in Fallout 4, but with some changes to the mechanics. New players might find some confusion operating Power Armor, but this article will cover the basic steps required to get your Power Armor up and running! Scroll down to Step 1 to get started.

Steps

  1. 1
Find a Power Armor frame out in the Appalachian Wasteland. Easier said than done, right? Well don't worry, there are actually spots you can frequent for Power Armor, such as the Morgantown Train Yard, Black Bear Lodge, Camp Venture, and Aaronholdt Homestead. Power Armor also spawns near certain Brotherhood of Steel camps, and other random areas out in the wasteland.
  2. 2
Loot the Power Armor frame. For new players, chances are you cannot simply enter the Power Armor as is. Power Armor pieces unlock at different levels, so while you can enter any empty Power Armor frame, you cannot use Power Armor pieces unless you meet their required level.

  3. 3
Make sure a Fusion Core is inside the Power Armor frame, and insert one if there is not. Like with Fallout 4, Power Armor relies on Fusion Cores to run. These can be found in generators or in ammunition crates out in the Appalachian Wasteland.
  4. 4
Enter the Power Armor frame. Walk or fast travel to your C.A.M.P. where you can safely store it.
    • Alternatively, you can enter the Power Armor frame to claim it as yours, exit it, then pick it up as an item in your inventory.
  5. 5
Continue leveling up as you progress in the game. Check back every now and then to see if you meet the level you need to wear Power Armor pieces.
  6. 6
Collect scrap and supplies from your adventures in the wasteland. Similar to Fallout 4, you need scavenged materials to repair your Power Armor pieces.
  7. 7
Add the Power Armor pieces to your Power Armor frame as you unlock them. Once you have a full suit of Power Armor, drop it from your inventory.
  8. 8
Enter the Power Armor frame. Revel in your glory, as you are now a juggernaut of the Appalachian Wasteland.

      Tips

      • If a Power Armor frame is missing from a spot that it typically spawns in, that means someone else already looted it before you. Just wait and come back, or enter a new server.
      • You may also find and swap out Power Armor pieces in the Appalachian Wasteland, or even new power armor frames.
      • Some Power Armor pieces must be built from scratch, such as the Excavator Power Armor.

      Warnings

      • A Power Armor frame with no helmet will not protect you from radiation damage.
      • You can move in a Power Armor frame without a Power Core, but your speed will be incredibly hindered.
      • Power Armor increases your damage resistance and eliminates fall damage, but it does not make you impervious.
      • When dropping Power Armor frames, try to make sure you are alone or with players you trust. Someone can hop into your Power Armor frame the first time you drop it if you don't get in before them.
      • A Power Armor frame will never spawn as a complete set. You will need to loot multiple frames to get the pieces you want.
