How to Become Famous

Identify what you’re good at. Most people are famous for doing something really well, whether that’s acting, art, politics, science, or just being themselves. Sit down and think about your strengths, then decide on one strength to work on and to chase.

Curate an image. Celebrities are always just showing you one specific side of themselves, but they’re just people like anyone else. Being famous is about showing people one particular side of yourself that they can attach to. Think about how you want to be seen, and what you want your “brand” to be, whether that’s goofy, earnest, mysterious, or anything else.

Put yourself out there. It’s hard to become famous if you’re totally unknown. Thankfully, in the world of social media, it’s easier than ever to get noticed. Start an account and post your work, or document your life for people to follow along. Also, don’t forget the more professional stuff! For example, if you’re a writer, find an agent. If you’re a musician, try to book a local show. You gotta get eyes on yourself!

Network, network, network. Sometimes, it’s all about who you know. If you have a celebrity you admire, reach out! Send them some mail, or DM them on social media. It might help to start small, though. A world-class actor might not respond, but a new, local actor is probably more willing to help you out. Ask them how they got their start, for advice, or even just open a dialogue to make a new friend.

Keep working hard. Fostering a skill and a talent that could make you famous isn’t just something that happens overnight. Many famous people were working for years before they got discovered. Don’t give up! Keep going. Even if you don’t get famous, being really, really good at something is its own reward.
