Thelma Evans Knoxford Elementary School 14th Elm St., Detroit, MI Dear Miss Evans, My name is Paula Albertson and my daughter is Denise Albertson, a member of your Math class. I am writing to seek your help with Denise’s performance in your class. Denise is a bright, inquisitive, and creative young lady and really gets passionate about her activities. Yet somehow, she found a slight aversion to numbers in general. I understand that she did very poorly during the last exams and this quite upset her prompting her absence for two consecutive class meetings. Let it be on record that we did not ignore nor will we permit such behavior to carry on. As parents to three children, we understand, however, that a continued stick approach may not be the best option in situations like this. Denise will be back in school on Monday and will attend your class. We wish to request that you kindly extend extra understanding by not calling her attention about the matter in front of the class. We understand that as a teacher you have your preferred methods of instilling discipline in your class and we deeply respect that. This is just an earnest request based on our experience with dealing with our daughter. Denise responds better to positive and action-oriented solutions to problems. In fact, she has agreed to attend after-class supplementary lessons to catch up and to understand her lessons better. My husband and I would like to thank you for your understanding and help on this matter. Our hope is that we can maintain communication on how we can help Denise. We will much appreciate it if you would give us feedback and suggestions on how we can help her at home to improve her performance. God bless and thank you for understanding. Sincerely, Paula K.
