wikiHow turns 16 in several days. And wikis have come a long way. I know I started a gen chat about Wikipedia, but this is about wikiHow.

It has been humbling to participate in this wiki community for the past three years. Being able to help others accomplish tasks (or at least start to help) has yielded great rewards for all of us as a community, from writers to gatekeepers to editors. Almost all of us that is contributing here has had interest in pursuing our mission. wikiHow would not have been the same without the amazing community we are.

Hopefully we can celebrate our community on 15 January 2021. I know @JackHerrick would have a lot more to add to this, but I think we should take this month of January to celebrate the wiki way. When Jimbo Wales and the Wikimedia Foundation developed MediaWiki almost 20 years ago, they were hoping for “a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge”. Twenty years later, we have gotten extremely close to that goal. And we as both a small wiki community and as part of a global movement will continue striving towards that goal by providing our expertise, starting new articles, and removing inaccurate information. The wiki way encourages this, and we should be proud that we are a wiki. Jack could easily have chosen a closed how-to website where only a small number of people could contribute. But he didn’t. Look where we are now . This is the time to celebrate.

On a side note, can an admin @RubyRoseRain or @anon74718567 set this to close on 31 January 2021?

wikiHow will be old enough to drive come the 15th! Not only should January be known for New Year and MLK, this month should be known as Wikimonth. Happy early birthday wikiHow! Can’t wait for the card on the 15th.

Happy new year to my fellow wikiHowians!

Wow I was not aware that WikiHow has been around for such a long time. Not gonna lie I used to use WikiHow sometime ago, and then sorta forgot about it again. Somehow I am back here after all the WikiHow memes lol. Happy bday WikiHow, keep thriving!

Oh, I used to use wikiHow all the time before joining. Who would’ve known that I’d become a contributor:smiley:.

I must have started to view wikiHow for first glance because…

In early 2017, I was searching an article (most likely stubbed or deleted) on about to “annoy your parents because you are grounded”. I was trusting the directions for a bit but I gave up simply. A few months later, I decided to make an account later (upon a different name that I don’t use anymore) and made “How to Block a User on Wikia”, which is deleted because it wasn’t a how-to. However, that was me trying to learn how to make an article. A few days later, I randomly made another account under ICanGuessItLol, but my bit of guessing in real life developed that user name, or it was purely random. Then I made “Use Mighty Mixer” because I liked As Seen On TV Ads, but it would soon be marked for being an advertisement. At the next minute when I signed my account, I ended up doing my first try in patrolling (the edit was from Lily Dragonclaw, which is this edit . I wasn’t aware that it would later lead through a successful wikiHow career, which is something that I cherish in my heart. Later, I would love patrolling, reviewing tips/videos/feedback, and other things that I use on every wikiHow day.

And that’s how I originated here on wikiHow! And I hope the wikiHow team and community will enjoy this 16th anniversary.

Same! It came up in my Google searches whenever I searched for how to do something. I can’t remember when, but somewhere along the line I noticed the “Log In” button and totally freaked out when I realized I could actually add to this amazing website. It really is amazing! Happy Birthday wikiHow!

Something about wikiHow made it unique when I was searching how-tos. I think there was some popup that said something like “next time you want to know how to do something, search wikiHow to…”. From that day on, every time I wanted to know how to do something, I used wikiHow:slight_smile:.

Yay!! I’m not going to my uncle’s house so I can join!
