Use Bing to search by images or find pictures of anything

Bing, Microsoft's internet search engine, is a great alternative to Google. And just like Google, Bing has an image search that makes it easy to find photos, illustrations, and other images just by entering some keywords that describe what you want to see. You can even refine your Bing image search results to display images of different sizes, colors, and usage types. Another cool feature of Bing is that you can search the internet with an image, also known as a reverse image search. This guide will teach you how to use Bing image search to find images and Bing Visual Search to search the web with a photo.

Image Search on Bing

To find an image on Bing, go to bing.com/images and type what you're looking for into the search field. Click an image to view and download it if desired. You can also search Bing with an image at bing.com/visualsearch (reverse image search).

  3. The search bar at the top of the image search page will use your keywords to search for pictures. Type a few words that describe the type of image you want to find, then press Enter or Return to search.
    • For example, you can search for keywords like “mountains,” “education,” or even the name of a person such as "Angelina Jolie.”
  4. 4
Refine your search results. To narrow your search for more specific types of pictures, you can click Filter at the top-right corner to choose various options, including the option to search for specific size images, certain colors, layout (wide or tall), people options (just faces or head and shoulders), date, and the type of license ( Creative Commons , free to use and share, etc.). [1]
  5. 5
View a picture full size. Click an image to view a larger version, then click View image beneath it to view the image at its full size.
    • If you want to download the image to your computer, you can right-click or control-click the full-size version and select Save image as (or similar).
  6. 6
Click Visual Search below an image to find similar or identical images. When you click an image on Bing image search, you will see the "Visual search" option beneath it. Clicking this option uses the current image to search images on Bing and displays other images that are similar.
    • If you'd like to, you can use the guidelines around the original image to crop out anything you don't want.

Go to www.bing.com/visualsearch in any web browser. You can use any web browser to use Bing Visual Search, including Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. If you're using a phone or tablet, you also have the option of installing the Bing app, which includes Bing Visual Search. [2]
    • You can use this method to search Bing using an image, which is when you don't type a keyword into the search engine, but you use an actual image to see whether the same or related images exist online. This is useful for finding the original source of an image, as well as to find similar images, learn more about objects in images, and even find places to buy products in pictures .
    • You can also open Visual Search by clicking the camera icon in the Bing search bar at the top of the search engine.
  2. 2
Drag an image into the box. Alternatively, you can select Browse to select an image from your device, Take Photo to capture a photo with your device and use that to search the web, click Paste image or URL to paste the web address to an image, or Find an image to search for an image using keywords.
    • Once you select an image, Bing Visual Search will automatically search the web for your image and display similar ones.
  3. 3
Click an image to view its options. Click any of the results in your Visual Search to see options, including the option to view Pages with this image (reverse image search), Looks like (to identify people, animals, and objects in images), and Related content (to find other images that may interest you).
  4. 4
Search for objects or products within an image. Depending on the image, you may see some blue dots in various areas that allow you to search Bing using a specific part of the image. For example, if you searched Bing using a photo of your bathroom, you might see a blue dot on your shower curtain–if you click the dot, Bing will search the web for similar or identical shower curtains, and even list some places you can buy them.
    • When you click a blue dot, you'll also see a rectangle surrounding that part of the image. You can drag to expand or contract the size of the rectangle to focus on a smaller area, or even move it to another location.

Best Ways to Use Bing Image Search & Visual Search

PDF download Download Article
  1. 1
Find a clothing item or other product you want to buy. For example, if you see someone wearing a shirt you really like, you can take a photo and use Bing Visual Search to find it online. Depending on the item you're searching for, you may see a list of online stores that carry it, and even prices you can compare. If you're just shopping and don't have a photo to start with, you can use Bing image search to describe what you're looking for (e.g., "pink iPhone case") and see matching products.
  2. 2
Find photos you can use for projects. If you have a YouTube channel, design websites, or need images for your brand, you can use Bing image search to find images and graphics. Just click Images at the top of Bing, search for what you're looking for, and filter the results to show images you can use commercially.
  3. 3
Translate text in an image. If you're reading a sign, restaurant menu, book, or any other text in the real world in a language you don't understand, you can use Bing Visual Search to translate it. Just take the photo, add it to Bing Visual Search, and click the Translate button beneath it.
  4. 4
Identify a bird, bug, plant, animal, or dog breed. See something in nature that you want to identify? Snap a photo and upload it to Bing Visual Search, and it will tell you what it is. In our testing, the results were pretty accurate for plant identification , though it mistook one writer's small long-haired chihuahua mix for a St. Bernard.
  5. 5
Extract text from an image. This is a cool (though somewhat imperfect) use for Bing Visual Search–if there is text in an image that you want to add to a document, social media post, or for anything else, you can use Bing Visual Search to extract the text. Just drag it to Bing Visual Search and click Text below the image to display the text in a box you can copy it from.
