Subject: Inquiry from Potential Graduate Student
Dear Professor Jorgensen,
My name is Rebecca Phillippe, and I’m graduating with a degree in psychology from the California University of the Sciences this year. I’m very interested in applying to the Washington School of Psychology to continue my work, and was wondering if I’d be able to ask you a few questions about your department to get to know it a bit more.
As a precursor, I wanted to tell you a bit about my own background and experience. In addition to my undergraduate courses, I’ve also been working as a research assistant in a lab on campus and have interned at the California Psychology Journal for the past two summers. My focus is on human-animal interactions, which is why I’m so interested in WSP and in your department in particular. I followed your research last year on human-dog friendships very closely, and although my current concentration has more to do with cats, I’d love to talk to you more about your research and experiences, as well as about the school as a whole.
Would you be available for a short chat either over the phone or in-person? I’m on winter break for the next month or so, so I can be flexible around your availability. I know how busy you are and I would really appreciate the chance to talk. Please let me know a day and time that works for you, and thank you so much!
Best,
Rebecca
